Brilliant design, super sharp and very easy to use
Brilliant design, super sharp and very easy to use. There are a number of negative reviews of this product including photos of injuries, all I can say is that there are two types of mandolin, one you can play with your fingers and one that you shouldn't let your fingers come into contact with! This tool, kitchen knives, axes and chain-saws can cause injuries if you are not careful. Tip - just hold the veg with your hand to start with, then when your fingers are getting close to the blade use the veg holder.

Uneven cuts
I bought this mandoline to be able to make perfect even slices and unfortunately this product didn't do this. Every slice is on an angle (see picture) so on the thinnest setting it wasn't even possible to make a full round cut because of the wobbly thickness mechanism so I had to return it.

I loved this slicer at first
I loved this slicer at first; it cuts potatoes for dauphinoise swiftly and evenly. But having used only a dozen times or so, the blade is now blunt, so it feels like an expensive purchase, for not much usage.

Very sharp very useful
Have been after a Mandoline for a while now. Was originally going to get the original Benriner that you see all the chefs using on TV. But after looking into it, was worried that someone may get hurt using it incorrectly and slicing a finger. Opted for the Oxo Good grips mandoline slicer because. V shaped blade seems to make it easier to cut various items, from starchy potatoes, hard carrots, soft tomatoes, onions, lemons, oranges etc, It cuts very well. It is very easy to adjust the thickness of the cut with a simple dial. No need to worry about adjusting both sides to make it even. One dial controls the thickness. It has a built in stand that lifts up the top and at a slant so you can slice away with ease, not having to manually support the weight of the mandoline as you slice. Included with the kit was julienne attachments, which are very useful they make great french fries. The finger guard works well, leaving only a small amount of fruit or vegetable behind that cannot be cut. Storage, the whole thing including attachments clip and store inside the mandoline making storage a breeze. Clean up is ok, however before using it, I remove any attachments I don't need and set aside, otherwise they will get dirty even though your not using them.Very happy with this purchase, makes food prep a breeze and saves a lot of time.

Thought long and hard about a mandolin slicer and looked at fancy ones with stands etc. This simple OXO one has been great. It does the basic task of slicing and works well on anything like a potato, carrots and celery that have a bit of firmness to them. It starts to struggle with softer things like tomatoes and mushroom but still works. As long as you don't expect it to do all of your kitchen slicing, it is a great utensil to have. I like the Dauphinoise potato dish and it's great for this. To work, it has to be surgically sharp so extreme care is needed when using it! Keep it away from kids! OXO provide a safety holder to secure the veg in question which I use when getting too close to the blade for comfort! It has three width settings and a closed safety setting but would benefit from a custom made container in which to store it away in so you could be confident that you didn't catch your fingers on it when getting it out of the drawer. A good purchase, which we use a lot.

Slicing Magic
Excellent product and VERY sharp! First time I used (without food holder) it took the tip off my finger! So beware! I now cut carrots, courgettes etc part way down then use the holder. The reason I only give four stars is the food holder is very difficult to secure to harder vegetables and fruit. Easy to wash and with three thickness settings is good for stir fry or salads. I like the fact you can rest it on a bowl or saucepan so the slices go where you want them! Recommended.

Great kitchen tool
I bought this primarily to make sweet potato crisps and it's great. Requires vey little effort if used properly. Excellent and quick on cucumbers, peppers, onions, tomatoes etc. for sandwich fillings. It's adjustable for 3 thicknesses however I tend to prefer the thickest setting for most uses, even the sweet potato crisps which will thin out when dried and cooked in the oven.
