More preferable to Slendertone (reviewed by a long time Slendertone user)
Have had two models of Slendertone for 15 years, one with AAA batteries for me and the other rechargeable for my wife. Back then, Slendertone was the only toner available, and they worked well.My wife's stopped charging after about 6 years, and she stopped using 'em..Seeing the multitudes of asian import belts at "disposable income" pricing on Amazon piqued my interest in replacing my wife's belt, and started reading Amazon reviews for hours trying to find a good one. The only one that stood out and could be cross-referenced outside of Amazon was the Beurer EM37. Turns out they are highly acclaimed throughout Europe, perhaps from the German design/engineering claim (still made in China). Before I gifted it to my wife, I tested it out. I wanted to justify its usefulness at 25% the cost of Slendertone. To reiterate, I still LOVE my Slendertone (old stretchy neoprene style). Guess what? There is ZERO difference in the stimulated contractions delivered from the Beurer belt!it is completely up to you if you want to spend $200 or $50 for the same contraction. It is also up to you if you wish to throw money away on disposable Slendertone dispersive pads.Beurer Pros: no pad cost, easy interface, easy buttons, dependability of regular batteries (can use rechargeable AAAs), and the belt is larger in height. The stimulated contractions are equivalent. Component can be used separately with other pads for tens, etc.Beurer Cons: No stretch to the belt which can lead to loss of skin contact if using while active. (I may try to find a short length of velcro'd stretchy neoprene to adapt)Verdict: It is a "No Brainer" at 25% the cost of Slendertone. Current reviews of the "new" Slendertone design highlights many glitches in their electronic module, and the belt is even smaller than before. When my old, preferred Neoprene Slendertone belt fails, I will immediately replace it with the Buerer.Hope that this helps.(Oh, BTW, these belts are not for rectus abd or oblique HYPERTROPHY... They are for awakening, toning, and conditioning these muscles only. Think "core capability," not "Mr Olympia." Strengthen your CORE to increase whole body strength, and also to alleviate your overcompensating sore/unstable back.)

Outstanding Pain Relief
I have broken vertebrae and also a compression injury. This belt provides immediate relief, better and cheaper than the tens pads I purchased prior to my daughter recommending this belt to me. The tens pads were always falling off my back and continually triggering electrical shocks. This belt will also generates a nice shock if not properly moistened but not near as much as with the pads. This is either the fifth or sixth Beurer belt that I have purchased. I wear them two to three hours every day. Quite often, I wear two at a time but have worn three on occasion. I wear the belt two or three hours. It's not uncomfortable to wear even when time expires (20 minutes). Program C is the bomb. That's a great workout. The other programs are for the timid -- but that's just a personal opinion.I have also found that reversing the belt has significantly improved my stomach muscles. Now, I see that Beurer now makes a belt for abs. I'll be taking a look at it shortly.I highly recommend this belt. It's extremely therapeutic. For me, it's a life saver.

Poor Performance
Product appears well made.I have a clip on TENS unit with dual controls and multiple, sticky back electrodes. I also get treated with a large, medical - grade model at my chiropractor. Both work well but the electrodes on the clip on model are difficult to maintain good skin contact unless strapped down with a weightlifer belt around my waist / lower back.If you have poor contact, the electrodes will arc. Though not painful per se, the arcing is uncomfortable. The tingling of this item is more like arcing. No matter what I did, I just couldn't get past the arching. I had really looked forward to this technology, however, it resulted in a big disappointment. Hate giving bad reviews but it's my honest opinion. Returning item tomorrow.

Does what it is supposed to do, but with some issues
I was worried about this device, because it had so many one star reviews and because I know nothing about TENS units (I was buying it for a neighbor because it was the only one that met her need for ease of use [no gel] and portability).Assembly and battery placement was very simple. The controller is held in magnetically, and the unit with the belt extension fit her well. She did have trouble operating the controller at first but got the hang of it rather quickly. The biggest issue is the timer, which is present for each program for about 25 minutes and cannot be changed. This meant that she had to manually turn the unit back on and set up her program again every half hour. I assume this is a safety precaution, but it is really aggravating for the user. A variable timer would have been easy to implement and would have made the unit much more useful, thus why I docked it one star.So far the unit hasn't given any trouble, but she's only been using it for one day now. She likes it. I hope the electronic component is durable. It certainly looks like it is.
