Klutz Star Wars Folded Flyers Activity Kit

Great fun!
We bought this for our resident 8-year old Star Wars fan, and I will not gloss over the fact that making these flyers, at least for him, requires the active "assistance" of an older person. In reality, that means that I am the actual one making the flyer and that my son is the assistant (he's in charge of cutting and the dispensing of tape, as needed). So, you ask, Why should I get this for my kid? Simply put, it's a great way to spend some one-on-one time with your kid, that doesn't actually involve staring at a TV screen or playing video games. Sure, at first, I inwardly grumbled to myself about having yet another thing to do, in addition to my normal parent/family job. However, once we got going on the first flyer (X-wing), we became really absorbed in it through making sure the folds were just right, the cuts were just so, and that the tape went on the right spot, all the while with each flyer my son is learning to hold back and wait for his job, and for some of the easier folds, he actually gets to do those, too. He looks to me with a degree of admiration, not that I was seeking that, for having helped him make these really cool flyers to aid in the creation of his own Star Wars battles, and the beauty of it is that we have another tool to bond closer together. The Basics:Star Wars Folded Flyers is not origami, although, as the name indicates, folding is involved, as well as cutting and taping. The instructions and graphics are quite clear, and do require close scrutinization for accuracy, otherwise, the planes won't fly very well. Some of the folding, even with the aid of a recommended ruler, requires some hard pressing when folding multiple layers of paper. Accurate cutting skills is also required. There are pages at the back of the book that tear-out, and are imprinted in such a way that they come to look like the ultimate finished ship, and a bonus is that there are more than one of the flyers to make, so that more can be enjoyed as they get bashed flying around, or in case you mess-up on the construction. The end results are some pretty cool paper airplanes to fly around the house.

Neat project for kids. They're paper planes and stickers. Great project for kids 5-? My 9 year old nephew and stepgrandpa love the projects in it.

Fun for 6yo
My 6yo loves this book! He is interested in origami lately, and this book is much easier to follow than several others we have tried. I occasionally have to help him with a step or two, but he is fairly independent with it. The ships actually fly well, and they look super cool! the quality of this book has exceeded my expectations.

Creative paper airplanes that are a real step up from the average!
My 8 year old son really enjoyed building these Star Wars themed paper airplanes. They are printed on high quality paper and I appreciate that 30 - yes 30 airplanes can be made! This makes the item perfect for a birthday or classroom craft! My son did need assistance in building and this was a little tougher than expected, but he was pleasantly surprised with the end result. He is looking forward to trying all of the types. My only area of recommendation is to further improve instructions, as some are not clear.

Good summer activity with my nephew
This was an excellent activity when weather made being outside unfavorable. It kept my nephew busier for much longer than expected. He loved making the different types and comparing the way each would fly.

Nicely made product
This book has very good graphics, instructions, annecdotes. However,I think its too sophisticated for most eight year olds; step that age range up three or four years. My son and daughter finals are devoted Star Wars followers, and I gave this to them for possible inside entertainment during the booger hot days we are expecting this summer. They already have many Star Wars collectibles and doing these vehicles will be enjoyable to them.

A blast for our boys!
My 9-year-old received this but his 12-year-old brother is equally enthusiastic about it. During the first two days they've had it, they've spent hours making the starfighters and flying them. The preprinted paper for the flyers is just the right weight and texture, and the designs are beautifully detailed. And they fly really well! An unexpected but added bonus: the book is much bigger than we expected; each of the six models has a couple of pages highlighting the model's pilot (Luke, Anakin, Obi-Wan, Darth Vader, etc.) as well as the specs of the actual starfighter in the films, which made for entertaining reading. They even included a page of pre-cut tape pieces, making this a great travel item since it's all included. A lot of work and care went into the development of this book; this is the second Klutz kit we've bought and we're very impressed with the high quality and the sheer joy of creative fun which shines through the company's products.
