Versatile distortion with classic character and real edge
I’ve been using the Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion and it’s become one of my go-to distortion pedals, especially when I want more attitude and flexibility than a basic distortion box. The standout feature for me is the dual turbo modes — it gives the pedal two distinct personalities in one box.Tone & characterThis isn’t a one-note distortion pedal — it really does cover a wide range of driven tones:• In Turbo Mode I, the distortion is warm and rich with a solid low end, making it great for crunchy rhythm parts that still feel musical.• Switching to Turbo Mode II kicks in a mid-range boost that really cuts through for leads or more biting, aggressive sounds. That mid boost really helps solos punch through a mix, and the extra gain stage gives a beefier edge compared to the classic DS-1. Many players describe Turbo Mode II as having more midrange presence and saturation, which definitely shows when I crank it up.Controls & usabilityThe controls are simple but effective — Level, Tone, Distortion — with the turbo switch giving you access to both sound modes. It’s intuitive, and I can dial it in quickly whether I want a gritty crunch or more cutting distortion.I also like that there’s a remote jack so you could hook up a footswitch to toggle modes hands-free if you wanted to (I haven’t used that yet, but it’s a cool pro-type feature).Where it shinesI find this particularly great with a clean amp or slightly overdriven channel — it brings out the pedal’s voice without making things muddy. And because of the two modes, it gives me options for both rhythm drive and more expressive solo distortion without needing a second pedal.Players online often talk about the DS-2 having a thicker distortion and less fizz than some classic Boss distortion pedals, giving it a slightly different vibe that can be really useful in rock and grunge contexts.A few things to noteIt’s not the tightest high-gain distortion in the world — if you want super modern metal tones, you might prefer something with more EQ control or dedicated high-gain voicing. But for classic rock, grunge, and expressive blues-leaning distortion, it’s excellent. There’s also a bit of noise if you crank everything all the way up — that’s pretty normal for big analog distortion, but a noise gate can help if that bothers you.Bottom lineThe Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion is a versatile, fun, and very musical distortion pedal. I love having two distinct distortion voices in one box — from warm crunch to mid-focused aggression — and it’s built with the usual Boss durability I expect on my pedalboard.

Two in one pedal, highly recommend.
The DS1 is legendary for a reason and the DS2 builds on that, the turbo mode adds clarity with a mid range/treble boost it sounds like. So youve got the DS1 in normal mode and the DS2 in turbo mode. Must have for anybody looking for ear melting distortion, highly recommend

Picks up subtle tone articulations with the right settings. (Edited: 8/17/2012)
I have added a comment to this review that further expands on actual settings used to make this pedal sound great through headphones.Pros:On JC Clean I used chorus and phaser with some reverb and gain. Sounds just fine with additional gain thrown in. Please keep in mind that I am using a bridge Super Distortion, and a neck Humbucker From Hell, pickup. Detects a lot of subtle playing nuances and articulations well when put on the right settings. Oh, and if you read the comment I added below, I used the external speaker in this context. The external speaker also bolsters the sound I found for headphones, just minor gain and tone alterations to taste. More volume has a great effect, so don't be afraid to really crank it up through some speakers that can handle it. Be sure to use caution when using headphones, as it can get real loud in there.Cons:"Three modes - MTR (multi-track recorder), eBand, and Live Rec Records directly to SD/SDHC memory card (up to 32 GB) High-quality stereo condenser microphone built in for instant audio capture 64 V-Tracks and eight simultaneous playback tracks eBand function for phrase training and play-along tracks Huge library of built-in backing and rhythm patterns World-class COSM amps and effects onboard Use as a USB audio interface with built-in effects SONAR X1 LE software included"I just got this effects pedal. If you are skilled at messing with tones then this pedal will sound great, especially if you have a decent amp and pickups in your guitar. My only gripe is that above statement about SONAR X1 LE software being included along with the slightly higher amazon price is factually incorrect. I thoroughly checked all that was shipped to me, plus I checked online in case of an email pertaining to such. No such evidence was found. Way to be misleading AMAZON.

Love it
Legendary pedal, awesome for soloing, it catches the high frequencies extraordinarily, giving a bright sound without losing body. There's nothing better than the Turbo mode of this thing

Is a ds2. What more can be said?
Boss took the ds1 and somehow made it even better. I love the versatility of sounds that can be achieved using this. Sounds good in the fx loop, and also boosting an amp. One of the best pedals ever made.

Turbo mode is super harsh
Love the sound! It’s a little on the bassier side. Ds1 sounds better more aggressive and versatile than the ds2

Great pedal
Been using it for 4 years without issues

Gran pedal
Es el único pedal que podrías llegar a necesitar, el modo turbo es el mejor de los dos el modo default no es tan bueno y necesitarás mucho volumen o ganancia para que suene aceptable, pero aún así es muy bueno :)

Iconic sounds
I was torn between the DS-1 or DS-2. I finally bought the DS-2. This is an excellent pedal and has all the capabilities of a DS-1 and more. Responds well when fed into a slightly overdriven amp compared to a fully clean channel. Able to get some classic Nirvana and Frusciante sounds with this pedal. 100% would recommend for beginner and advanced guitarists.
