If you can tie your shoelaces, you can create an erotic masterpiece! From the author of SM 101 comes this compendium of sensible, sensational advice about how to tie up your sweetie, or get tied up yourself. Everything from simple hands-behind-the-back experimentation to immobilizing spread eagles and hogties - all presented with Wiseman's trademark humor and responsibility. Simple and easy-to-follow, with no complex knots and plenty of illustrations to guide you on your way to bound bliss. Review: Safe Erotic Bondage Handbook – Practical, Step-by-Step Guide for Beginners & Safe Fun! - I am very happy with this book, Jay Wiseman's Erotic Bondage Handbook! It is a clear and practical guide that teaches safe and fun ways to explore rope bondage with your partner. The author explains everything step by step, from simple hands-behind-the-back ties to more advanced positions like spread eagles and hogties. He uses easy knots that anyone can learn (if you can tie your shoes, you can do this). The book has many pictures and strong focus on safety, communication, and consent. I learned important tips about monitoring your partner, avoiding risks, and making the experience enjoyable for both people. It brings me a real sense of satisfaction to have this book. It is written with humor and good advice that makes the topic feel approachable and responsible. Perfect for beginners who want to add excitement to their intimate life in a safe way. I highly recommend it! Would buy again. Review: Perfect basic reading and a must read on safety. - I need to start in a way that will seem to be somewhat strange taking into account my 5-star rating: I have found very, very little new in this book. But I need to confess that I'm a sort of "advanced user". I practice shibari and go into suspension actively. Just the things that the author doesn't cover. And he honestly says about it at the very beginning (the third thing you won't find in it is bondage of a struggling person). So, if you're looking for Japanese style bondage, this is not the best book. However, I insist that every novice read it despite his/her preferred style. Just because this is probably the best source of info regarding all kinds of risks that we may face during our activity and the ways we can avoid them. Also the book is a great source for beginners who want to try bondage and look for basic knots and harnesses. And in general "western type" of "sex-focused" bondage (let's say "tie and caress") is described very well here. But repeat again, 90% of value of this book is about safely. It's funny but among my kinky friends the general idea is "the book is a bit boring, because the author often says quite obvious things, but I have read it and can advise to others". I share this opinion.

needs more pictures!
I bought this book not because I had much interest in bondage at the time but because I was a big fan of Wiseman's work and figured, why not. So I sort of skimmed it the first time and set it aside. After playing with bondage for several months, I went back and read it again, and literally all the things I'd learned "the hard way" were totally covered in this book, and I would have saved myself a ton of silly experiments if I'd actually been paying attention the first time. Oops. My main complaint is that I wish this book had twice as many pictures as it does. To me it is completely nuts to have a knot, technique, or harness explained but not illustrated.

Not great but helpful to a newbie
So I have been doing my own research online and youtube about rope bondage, more precisely shibari/kinbaku, so I thought it about time to buy a real book. I bought this book after reading some reviews and doing some research. I was very disappointed with this book, the ties it are functional but in NO way appealing to the eye. The rope section is not helpful in anyway, it doesnt even mention hemp..HEMP, it doesnt teach you knots. The "illustrations" are hand drawn and terrible. It teaches you basic bondage but no technique. So as far as being creative this book doesn't give you the tools to do that at all. In all honesty this book is kinda useless. I wouldn't even recommend it a complete newbie cause the foundations it teaches are all wrong and in no way shibari/kinbaku. If you wanna learn true beautiful rope work/shibari style bondage for decoritive or sex, be able to create your own harnesses, develop your own style go get The Knotty Boys downloadable videos for FREE online. Get their books, which I have since purchased and LOVE, also youtube is super helpful. look up "twisted monk" "shibari" "tkb".

Nice book. Well written, well illustrated...
But still, as good as the information is, it still leaves out the one essential lesson: how to find suitable partners or groups in your area. Without a partner, the knowledge is nice, but pretty useless. But, now that the book has my curiosity peaked; I'd love to get in touch with someone 'in the life' who lives near me and is willing to show me what it's all about. Most people 'in the life' seem to think we have to be born with the knowledge fully intact; and look down on 'newbies', or at least, ignore or openly reject those with no prior experience.

This book needs focus and a number of other things
A ground-breaking work on a difficult subject which needs editing that it didn't get. This book's first problem is that the author knows *far* too much about his subject and is not afraid to share it. The Erotic Bondage Handbook covers everything you need to know to go deep into any sexual scene and into no scene. Straight, gay, lesbian, bedroom, backroom, Wiseman is there with helpful advice given in page after page of uniquely lifeless prose until the actual information dissolves in confusion. Wiseman is nothing if not thorough and he is very fair to sexual minorities, but if you're just a guy or just a gal who wants to explore bondage safely, you find yourself having to wade through oceans of information for people who basically have nothing to do with you. This leads to another of the book's problems: the author's knowledge of his subject overshadows his ability to convey that knowledge to anyone else. When Wiseman talks about knots, he mixes standard and non-standard terminology to create an unsystematic hodge-podge, that is not supported by enough illustration to make it work; that is, unless you already know enough about tying knots to not bother reading that section of the book in the first place. Much the same is true when Wiseman handles illustrations of various ways of tying: instead of sequential illustrations that show you how to apply a tie, the book hands the reader a snapshot or, at best, a two-segment sequence that is supposed to tell someone who has never done it how to tie someone safely and securely. In addition to this, what illustrations there are, are line/pencil drawings that display an amateur-hour quality that gives the book an ugly, underground-magazine quality that makes the book as a project look sleazy and underproduced as if the publisher couldn't afford a better illustrator. To be fair to Wiseman, things have changed since the publication in 2000 of the Erotic Bondage Handbook. The anonymity and convenient delivery offered by the Internet has made bondage-related erotic material a multi-million- if not a multi-billion dollar industry and this has worked to 'normalize' bondage and bring it closer to the mainstream so that more current works like Midori's 'Sensual art of Japanese Bondage' and Chanta Rose's 'Bondage for Sex' were born into a kinder and better-funded production environment than Wiseman's book, but even so, the Erotic Bondage Handbook lacks things, the first of which is also the most important: easy and pleasant readability.

Very advisable literature for starters
This book is nothing for advanced bondage fans IF they have learned the basics! It is not full of illustrations and nothing about the ART of bondage. It is just about binding people but in a reasonable manner. The step-by-step guides should IMHO have been pepped up with illustrations or pictures but that is not what makes this book remarkable. It is easy to read and the author is paying much attention to raise the readers awareness to this topics and also problems that might take place in the wake of bondage. The first 84 pages are absolutely recommendable for all riggers no matter if the just do some "home bondage" or head for Kinbaku/Shibari what ever. These pages are packed with fundamental basics all rope users should know. The author has a sound BDSM background and has medical experience which allows him to give the reader a point of view as interviewing author, rope user and medic. The books is plastered with examples from real life to make the point in the DOs and DON'Ts I would say this book addresses everybody who: - is interested/curious - wants to become involved - new starter - about to visit a bondage course You will have a quite profound knowledge upfront to avoid bad sessions. Especially security is a big topic which several books really fail at. I personally disagree with the author favoring the emegency bandage scissor instead of having a rescue knife handy but that probably a matter of personal preference. The only thing the book is glichting a bit is where important nerves are located on the body to avoid to squeze them. There are some genral hints but a graphic of the human body and the located nerves would have been a better idea. The bondage part of the book is not impressing but may be a good start for someone who wants to do some testing with the partner. Anyways, I highly recommend it due to the great theoretical part before it goes into practicing. The theory would probably have prevented loads of injuries or fatalities if the people would have known theory before practicing.
