Spectacularly bad freezer design
Don't judge the freezer space in this machine by the cubic feet. Instead take a good look inside. There are two drawers, each of which is inches smaller than the available space, so you lose a LOT of freezer space there alone. Smaller items such as ice cream bars fall out of the baskets and get wedged against the freezer wall, or fall out onto the floor. Everything has to be kept in boxes or bags. To open the (smaller) top drawer, you first have to open the bottom drawer all the way out. The icemaker takes up a big portion of the top drawer. Then there's the useless plastic partitions in both drawers. They can't be moved. You either have to like the way they're already inserted - which is very poorly designed for access or space needs - or break them out, I suppose.I would give the refrigerator section of this machine a "B", but the freezer fully deserves an "F". I've purchased both new and used refrigerators before, and this has without a doubt the very WORST freezer I've ever seen or owned. Imagine a village idiot designing a freezer -- this is it. I'm actually looking forward to it breaking down so I can replace it. Unfortunately the magnitude of inconvenience and wasted space in this thing was not apparent until it was installed and used. Only the fact that I got it for $800 as just-unboxed model with a tiny scratch made me keep it to see if I could learn to live with it. Not so much, as it turns out. As another reviewer mentioned happening to them, Whirlpool refused to publish my negative review of this iteml. Censored reviews cannot be relied upon.

Maybe
Not real stainless (can't buff out scratches). Covered with a clear coat. No way to fix scratches and may start peeling. A lot of manufacturers are doing this. Magnets will stick but will also scratch. Even tho clear coating is supposed to keep smudges down, it still smudges. A pain to keep looking nice. Like the design and movable shelves. Door flys open to about 170 degrees before stopping. No way to adjust. Always have to hold on to it while getting things in and out. It won't just stay open a bit even if you try to just leave it at 90 degrees, it just keeps opening. A real pain!

Good for cooks
I am a little confused by some poor reviews of this appliance. I recently replaced a Frigidaire/Kenmore side by side which never worked well but I endured for 15 years with this Whirlpool model and I am very happy with the change. The bottom freezer works great for a modest compartment, makes ice quickly and neatly, the fridge itself (which is the main point) is spacious and super cold, the appliance looks good, and I think I paid about $1350 for it delivered--so I'm wondering what's the problem. There is stuff at Lowe's for $2000 and on up to the price of a small car which is not nearly as efficient or well designed. Think about that difference in money. If you like to cook, want a big fridge that is cold, and don't expect your fridge to do all, including being a deep freezer, I think this is a good model to go with if you like the look and designs. For me, I'm done with side by sides.

The Fridge From Hell
Although I bought this model from a local store, this appliance is so spectacularly bad that I had to comment. It looks and cools just fine, but makes so many varied and LOUD bad noises, you will regret the day you allowed it into your house. I cannot for the life of me understand why it wheezes, pops, gurgles and even awakened me at night because I thought someone was breaking into my home. My purchase was based on this appliance being made in the USA and supporting our workers here. I feel sorry for the retailers of this lump. A one star rating is generous.

Great fridge for the money
Great fridge for the money, it occasionally makes a noise but I haven't found it to be excessively loud by any stretch, I imagine the other reviewer had a defective fridge. Storage space is great, excellent lighting.
