Pretty Disappointed! Shame on Amazon! (**Edited**)
After saving up some money I ordered the Lamy 2000 with excitement and great anticipation. Well...I received a pen that had a very visible ink splotch on the nib, with a further inspection using a 10x loupe revealing dried up ink residues all over the nib and a nice piece of a paper strand stuck between the nib. I immediately assumed it was a returned defective pen that was turned around and sold as new hoping someone wouldn't know any better - yes I purchased a NEW pen but got a USED defective pen; defective because sure enough, upon inking it up, the nib skips on all the up strokes...100% of the time, no exception. The nib was obviously defective from the factory. I inspected the nib and everything was aligned correctly but it seemed like there was a bit more "material" on one of the tines. What if I was gifting this to somebody?? Actually I did gift one for a business gift last year before I even bought it for myself and tried it out this year. Who knows if that one was defective too. I heard there was quality control issues with these pens and that they are either a hit or miss but unfortunately I bit the dust on this one. Shame on Lamy and especially shame on Amazon for repackaging and reselling me a defective pen. I'm going on a long trip overseas and ordered this last minute hoping to bring it with me as an incentive to do some serious writing. Now it's too late to return it and get a new one before I leave and this leaves me even more disappointed. I was really, really looking forward to using it throughout my time away. I have not contacted the seller. I have contacted Amazon and they were very helpful, as always. I will update this review as to how this issue is handled. Very, very disappointed! **Edit: Turns out Amazon handles the returns/shipping for the seller and they are responsible for this mishap. Too bad. My previous experiences have all been very good with Amazon but I guess things happen from time to time. I was, as expected, issued a free return. I don't really know what else could have been done but I still have a sour taste after this transaction ***Edit #2*** Since this review is mainly intended to review the product and not the service I came back and changed my rating for this pen to 5 stars. I couldn't be happier with this fountain pen, after receiving a properly functioning unit. I will admit I did not think I would keep it at first but it has easily become my favorite pen. There are so many reviews covering this product, so I will briefly highlight the points that were the most important for me: The pen is understated so it does not attract too much attention although it obviously a quality pen; Maintenance is incredibly simple as the pen unscrews in all of the places necessary for quick cleaning and drying ( I love that the nib is pushed back for removal instead of pulling out...this makes it much easier and lessens the chance of breaking it). It is very balanced and writes smoothly, etc, etc,

Lamy 2000 vs Lamy Safari
I was really hesitant on ordering this pen. I had originally planned on going for something more expensive, like a Visconti Homo Sapiens, but I decided to give this Lamy a try due to it's overwhelmingly positive reviews on the internet. A lot of people say that they have a lot of pens, but they keep going back to the 2000 for some reason. I'll help you understand a few of those reasons. First off, this pen is way better in person than any picture I've seen online. I wasn't really a fan of the hooded nib look, and the finish just looked kind of blah. I was excited about the gold nib, and trying out the smoothness that I've seen people rave about. I ordered the pen, and was pleasantly surprised at what I got: 1. The box is nice. It's paper, but still nice. I feel like the design is fitting for the pen. 2. The pen has a nice weight to it, and feels much more solid than the Safari. When full of ink, it's a medium-weight pen. Not nearly as heavy as some other monster pens, and I would say that the weight is perfect. 3. The brushed finish of the Makralon exterior of the pen is fantastic. It honestly almost feels like a brushed stone, as it's very smooth but cool to the touch. If you look close you can actually see the marks of the brushing. I would say this pen is more on the satin side than the completely matte, but it's definitely not shiny. I was not expecting to like the finish so much, but I really have a hard time not touching it. Very unique, and it feels like quality. You really have to see it and hold it in your hands to understand what I'm talking about. The metal section near the nib is also brushed, and feels exactly like a cooler version of the Makralon body. It's very seamless, the tolerances are incredible. You don't feel any ridges or anything. It's very comfortable to grip regardless of if you have a small cramped grip (like mine) or hold your pen higher. 4. The nib is a huge step up from the Safari steel nib. It's wetter than my Safari, but it's so smooth. I feel like I need to use half as much pressure as I did with the Safari, and the pen really glides on Rhodia paper. For this reason alone, I don't think I could go back to my Safari. This is almost enough to sell me on the pen by itself. 5. People talk about a "sweet spot" on the 2000, but I haven't really had issues with that. It writes well in any way that I hold the pen. My Safari was more finnicky about how I held it. In closing, I wasn't expecting to like this pen. Part of me didn't want to like it. Then I got it, and I completely understand why it's been around for so long and why so many people use it. Aesthetically, it's very nice. From a few steps back it looks like a normal, boring black pen. But when you get close it really has a ton of character, and it feels rugged enough to be a daily writer. I love it. I consider this a no-brainer if you're a Safari owner looking to get a nicer pen. You won't be disappointed, and you may even find yourself neglecting the rest of your other pens.

This is an excellent fountain pen. The pen posts well and writes very smooth. I love the material that the fountain pen is made of. I have many other high end fountain pens but the Lamy 2000 is the best especially considering the price. The section is very comfortable even in long writing session. The clip is very nice too. I bought a fine nib version and I find it fine enough and smooth. Ink flow is very even from beginning to the end of a page. I love to write with my pen posted and the cap post very smooth deep and securely. I wished I would have bought the pen sooner.

Su estilo minimalista, su caligrafía fácil y su almacenamiento de tinta facilitan el uso diario. No resulta pesada y es muy útil para el uso en el día a día.

I did a lot of research before I purchased the pen. I should have bought long before that! It’s a beautiful pen, well designed and well made. It sure lives up to it’s reputation as an iconic pen! It is now my daily workhorse pen. Alexis

Simple minimalist packaging. Great performance out of the box. Smooth Fine writing experience. Compared to my LAMY Aion Fine the line width is indistinguishable. So a consistent LAMY fine line. The writing experience is smoother on the 2000. Very nice to write with. I like the writing experience with my Aion Fine but the overall aesthetics, feel, and writing experience is better, if the price is not an issue. It’s more than twice the price of the Aion. But look out for deals. Overall very pleased.
