Finally the right approach in writing art books
I really enjoyed reading this book....it is not "how to" book or "step by step" one...as are tons of books you can find online and neither one will teach you how to paint..because you need to do it by yourself....This book is about finding your own voice..which is the greatest struggle for all artists...The author gives many advice on composition, color, contrast etc...but the main values of this book is is that he gives direction, philosophy and strategy how to be you and how to paint not like Webb, Sargent or Turner but like yourself.

Webb on Watercolor
This is one of the very best books on watercolor, and on general principles of creativity, that I have ever read. I have enjoyed it and will continue to use it as a reference for future watercolor painting. I very much enjoy the photos of the paintings. The introduction, the section on Convictions, and the aim of art were so much more valuable than lists of materials. An all-time favorite book.

FINALLY THE RIGHT KIND OF INFORMATION!!
One of two of the best books I have ever read about painting in watercolor. This is not just a book about how to do a wash or what paper and brushes to use - this is a book about what it takes to create fine art. It is well beyond technique; it clearly and concisely communicates the thought process of creating fine art paintings. This has to be one of the most valuable books I have ever read on painting and creating art. Frank Webb is a genius and a master!!

The only book you need as a watercolorist
There is no better watercolor teacher than Frank Webb. His style may vary from yours, but his knowledge and method of teaching give a total understandable coverage of everything you need to succeed with watercolor, and all foundational aspects of painting. This book is a classic and cornerstone of your library.

Inspirational for the artist who wishes to grow
Frank Webb is an accomplished and well regarded artist in watercolor and oil, as well as a superb instructor and a clever man with a strong ability to communicate in a clear, concise and often witty manner. The color illustrations are numerous, of good quality and very helpful. The author stresses good composition for all aspiring artists. The authors painting style tends toward a loose impressionism, so those who favor strict representational art (aka illustration) may not like his examples as well as those aspiring to a looser, painterly means of making a visual statement or feeling.

One of My Favorite Books and Artist
There are 2 "Web on Watercolor" books. I don't recommend the other publication (White cover) since the plates are not well photographed. Frank Webb was not happy with it so he published the 2nd one (Blue cover) that is shown here. I recommend this book. I teach watercolor and refer to this book all the time. I love his technique and was grateful to take one of his watercolor classes. He passed away August 2022. We have lost a great artist/teacher and an amazing human being.

Worth adding to library
This is a well written book which teaches some concepts art students are taught. However, I never attended art school, and some things are in more depth than I wanted. Saying that, it is worth going through quickly and revisiting areas pertinent to a current project. My watercolor instructor who is a "real artist" says the most important thing to do is to paint and not worry about the concepts. This artist has many abstract works and some realistic but all very effective. It may be one of the more helpful books to own.
