Just the right amount of scary for little kids
Just the right amount of scary for little kids. I read this book to many classes while I was teaching. I would hide the pictures, so that they had to use their imagination to draw a picture of what they thought the tailypo looked like. I told them to pay attention to the description as I read the story. The pictures they drew were great! Now I have shared it with my grandchildren. For little ones it is just a little bit scary enough to thrill of them for Halloween.

Remembered From Childhood
I remembered checking this book out from my school library as a child and I loved it. Was happy to find it online and ordered it just to have as a nice memory. I still remembered the photos and laughed when I read it. Great book for a young child's scary story without being "too scary". Great pictures and great imagination. Footnote, when I read the book in school I was probably six years old and now I'm 48.

My favorite story as a child
I’m about to be 30 years old and I still love this book so much from when I was a kid. I had learned my husband had never heard of it, so I searched and was SO happy to see I could get it on here.

Great scary story for all ages, best for second grade on up
This book is a wonderful scary story that I have been reading to my school children for over 25 years. It is one of the most popular ones I read to the children. They enjoy being scared out of their wits by the antics of the old man and his encounters with the creepy tailypo that invades his cabin one dark, windy night. Most folks have never heard of this book, but it is a sure fire hit with kids and grown-ups also. I told it one evening at a Reading and Math night at the school where I was librarian, and parents and their children alike were very enthusiastic about the story. They all were on the edge of their seats.

Urban legend still lives, not for the meek and timid
This is too scary a story for those afraid of things under their bed or monsters in the closet. The actions in it are also too morbid (especially if your family are not outdoorsman types) for younger children. This was my childhood favorite scary book, however. I am glad knowing that this urban legend (yes it is not just a storybook, it’s also an urban legend) could still be purchased and that the Tailypo lives on.
