NEOGEO X Mega Pack Vol 1

I purchased my Neo Geo X System from Amazon about 2 months ago. Playing the handheld or hooking the system up with HDMI to my Sony 3D display is sweet. Was hard to notice the flaws also. I followed the directions to upgrade the firmware carefully and it worked fine. Once the upgrade process started I walked away to do something and when I got back (away 5 minutes or so) the screen was showing a large battery charging. The Rocket Cable was set to X. So not watching the whole process I don't know what firmware version I started with, what firmware version I ended up with and if the Neo Geo X rebooted or not. The upgrade worked though, I notice the improvements and I can now save games. I never played the Neo Geo in the arcades in it's hay day and I wanted to buy the home version but it was just to expensive (ended up with the Sega Genesis ..nice) so this remake works great for me. Love playing it. Also used the AV out cable and it is working just not as clean as HDMI. This is cool. Please Read. The Mega Pack Vol. 1 was a bunch o jive. Mine did not update at all and I have to wait 3 weeks for Tommo to reply to my customer service. I now have to wait 4 weeks for them exchange my Mega Pack for a working one and they also made me pay for the shipping. FYI - This Mega Pack boasts a Ver. 500 firmware upgrade but unfortunately it only updates 50% of the time, and even if it does the Ver. 500 firmware degrades the composite video out, making the image shaky and unplayable. The only fix is to send it back to Tommo and get a Ver. 500a firmware replacement, which will fix the screen shaking issue. This is a lot to endure for the price. If the future of this company continues to see shoddy releases like this, I do not imagine them to last very long at all. Save your money and buy an actual AES system. I would take 3 working games over the 35 games in the Neo Geo X collection. I regret buying this.

The mega pack adds 15 quality games to your neo geo x library, and provides a firmware upgrade to your system. I love the new games! And the upgrade was extremely easy and worked flawlessly. I recommend visiting the neogeox website which has a short video showing you how it works. Now a few things that might not be obvious to some: 1. This Megapack is a collection of the games offered in the "regular" 5 packs that came before it. You get nothing new if you already have those packs. 2. Some people are selling "just the card". This does you absolutely no good unless you've already managed to upgrade the firmware in your system (and the conventional way of loading said firmware upgrade is via the cable that those people are not selling you). 3. This pack doesn't load the games into the system. You actually play them right from the card as it is plugged in (unfortunately).

I think the 500 firmware killed my sound to the TV after the update. I can still hear bits of sound coming out every minute of so, but otherwise it is totally mute... Handheld wise it is great and the games are fun, too bad I mostly play at home so the sound issue is totally killing all the fun for me. I am now REALLY in need of an update or get my original firmware badly...

Thankfully I own a NeogeoX v.370. I had no problems updating. However, I can’t ignore the fact that some owners with v.337’s are being left out. What was Tommo doing during the lengthy delays? It’s a shame because the Megapack did a lot of things right. It still doesn’t make the NGX the best NeoGeo experience outside of the original AES/MVS, but what’s there is serviceable. The HDMI output has been greatly improved. Everything is clearer and vibrant and now fits the screen correctly. Unfortunately the same thing cannot be said for the composite output. It’s now degraded to the point of being unusable. I will begrudgingly take the tradeoff but why can’t both outputs be viable? Again, did Tommo do any QA testing during the delays? The audio has been noticeably improved. It just seems clearer and louder to me. The biggest addition is the game saving feature. You can now save your season in Baseball Stars 2, save your bowler in League Bowling, or start where you left off with a new set of credits for most of the NGX games. The NGX emulates the actual AES/MVS memory card so it functions the same way. To enable it, you have to format the virtual memory card. You can do this by pressing all 4 face buttons while the game is loading after you press A. The memory card menu should come up and you need to select Card Format. This will have to be done initially for each game but only once. All in all it’s just an OK product. There are just too many issues still to make the NeoGeoX recommendable to anyone. Also, I feel the update should be available to everyone who owns the NeoGeoX. Everyone should be able to enjoy the improvements without having to buy anything else.
