excellent !
It has a good heft and weight to it and looks pretty rugged and solid. It's a good looking razor. One minor issue I encountered was that when I first opened up the razor clamp and then was unfolding the razor, to insert/replace the razor blade, somehow I accidentally bent the clamping portion. I bent it back into place and it works fine. Now I know to be careful with the opened up clamping part when I am unfolding the razor to replace the razor blade. (When you're actually using the razor, this isn't an issue since the clamping part is snugly abutted to the razor frame.)Other than the razor clamp which seems a bit fragile and thin, the rest of the razor feels very solid and well built. I'm a straight razor newbie but, to me, aesthetically, it looks like a $100 razor.I'm basically happy with it so far (I'll try to update this review if any issues arise..)(update as of Sept 2014)so far, i've been using it for the past year and it's worked great. i've just updated it from 4 stars to 5 stars cause no issues and i'm still happy with it.build quality is excellent and i think it will probably last for years.this is much better than the other brand (which has a plastic handle tip). in fact, with the other brand, the tip broke after a few months. the luxor feels really solid and well built. this is probably one of the best under $50 straight razors out there on the market, by far.btw, i personally use extra virgin olive oil to shave with (instead of shaving cream) and it's been working fine and probably costs a fraction of what regular shave cream would cost. also, after shaving, i apply some more olive oil. from what i've read, olive oil is a mild antibiotic.also, get the Shark brand half blades. I've had no issues with them.

Overall decent, but don't expect to be replacing your dedicated double edge or straight.
The first thing I noticed when I un-packaged this device was that it felt good in my hand. The weight is nice, it feels balanced, and it looked good too. Unfortunately actually using this device uncovered some problems. The mechanism that holds the blade works, but it isn't perfect. The blade WILL slide a bit during use, and sometimes it does so badly enough that you have to stop and reset it. I also noticed with mine that the machining is a bit off and that one side of the blade is exposed a it more than the other. Not a huge deal, but something you have to be aware of or you will cut yourself.I also find the claim of being surgical stainless steel a bit hard to believe. After a few uses splotches started appearing on the finish. I've never seen real surgical stainless have this reaction with soap/water, so take that claim with a grain of salt...

We'll see...
I ordered two, one as a gift and one for myself. The gift I am waiting to give, the one for myself I opened to inspect. Mine, was off-kilter, meaning that the swing of the handle didn't line up perfectly with where the blade should slide into the casing. It's not off horrifically, but enough that it will constantly catch on the blade which is precisely what should NOT be happening. I have been working on it a bit to gently bend it into the position it should be, but it's still not quite right, so needless so say, I'm slightly disappointed in my razor. All I can do is hope that the same issue isn't seen in the razor that's already packaged up and ready to be given as a gift.... oy, what a disappointment that would be! On the plus side, this razor has a good weight to it and I'm looking forward to testing it out.

I was so impressed, I bought two.
I have used shavettes from Parker (both standard and PTB) and Personna Magic Razor with good results. They are like a Ford, and the Luxor is like an Alfa Romeo. It is all stainless steel, and the locking arm is well made and durable (if you do not mistreat it). The fit and finish are excellent, as is the balance. While, compact as compared to the above mentioned razors, it has a nice weight to it. The really novel feature is the blade holder; it is cut to fit the exact length of the blade. This makes it easier wield the blade, get in tight spaces, and have better all over control. Additionally, the edge of the blade holder is cut down very thin, so your skin is nearer to the blade (making it closer to a straight edge razor blade). This is one good looking razor, that really performs. I was so impressed, I bought two. That way whatever happens, I'll always have one.

One slight flaw, but okay.
It is a good shaver considering the materials are stainless steel. That's better than the plastic ones out there. This shaver uses inexpensive blades and that is a great plus. The only thing I don't like about this shaver is that the locking piece of metal (the metal piece that slides down and holds the two main pieces on the sides of the blade) is a little lightweight compared to the rest of the materials. They should have used a more robust gauge. That said, I think it is still enough to keep this working just fine. UPDATE: This is not completely stainless. It will rust if left in a humid environment.

Works good for trimming
I use this for trimming around my mustache, and side burns.I shave with a double edge razor but it's hard to trim with a DE,it's hard to get the angle and hard to see what you're trimming. This makes it easy to see what you're trimming and get the perfect blade angle.I like that the razorette is an all metal construction and seems to have good build quality for the price point. It is a little hard to load the blades properly the first couple of times.I've cut my finger being careless. The fact it uses standard DE blades snapped in half is convenient.

Solid
This razor is built solid. I love the feel of it in my hand and I like that it actually has weight to it. I use the feather DE blades broken in half. I also bought a Mr. C. so I can use the longer Feather Artist Club Super blades and that is my main razor now, but I use this when I want a quick shave (20 mins with this vs 45 mins with the Mr. C). Only thing I noticed is that you have to dry it completely after use, as I have used it about 8 times so far and I see at least one small rust spot in the area where the blade sits. Other than that, it's nearly unbeatable for the price and will be my main razor during my frequent travels.
