Great multi-use garden tool
I was a little skeptical about the number of gardening jobs this tool could actually perform. I started using it in our yard where we have a large variety of plants, including huge succulents: think giant agave plants. The agave stems HAVE to be trimmed down to the core. They are tough to get at because they have thorns/talons all the way done each leaf section. The Hori Hori Knife made the job really easy, like cutting through butter. It is really well made, sturdy and has inch measurements along the blade. It is not too heavy to work with and the leather sheath is a substantial addition. I have researched many types of gardening tools, read so so may reviews and I am confident that this knife is a really good choice for a variety of tough gardening tasks. I've used it to dig up stubborn weeds, trim the banana palms, cut back bougainvillea and trim bird of paradise plants. The knife edges remain sharp. I have not needed to sharpen the edges with the included sharpening stone, yet. The photo was copied from hort.mag

How did I not know about this product?
I don't have anything to compare this to as this is the first tool of this type I have owned. I have not had it long enough or used it enough to have to sharpen it. I just wanted to say this is way more useful than I knew it would be. I was originally just looking for a knife to help with gardening. This took is so much more. I've hacked away at suckers on my peach tree with it. Dug holes. Cut roots. Used it to harvest leaves and shoots. I gave it five stars for ergonomics even though I have small hands and it took some getting used to. I'm not sure a smaller tool would do all the things I've been able to do with it and I adjusted to the weight and feel pretty easily. This might even get as much, if not more use, as my trowel. The tool I didn't even know I needed. I also volunteer at a nonprofit farm and I think that's the only time I will use the sheath. I don't see myself clipping this to my belt for home use as I only have a patio garden and mostly grow my produce in pots.

More than I expected
I am thrilled with this tool. I have misplaced my other hori hori knife which I used almost daily as I am an avid gardener. I was ready to buy a Fiskars because I like their products but I read the handle was weak. I settled on this one as the price was good and the metal goes all the way through the handle. It came with a sheath and a little sharpening stone. I have used the knife for the usual digging but also for sawing small branches and removing bark from wood I wanted to use for planting stakes. Highly recommend.

2023 Christmas gift
I heard great things about this knife. Husband used it all during the 2024 gardening season. It is lightweight, easy to use and now a stable in our gardening tools.

Great tool but the sharpening stone was missing from the box
Never usually write a review this early after purchase but after using this for 2 days in the garden it is a great tool and I wonder why I never bought one before. However, I had to reduce to 4 stars as the whetstone listed in the description was not included. My guess is that the box which contained the tool was damaged, had the sharpening stone fall out at one of the Amazon shipping locations. As one reviewer stated, it might not be of much value to sharpen the hori hori with but it might have been good to remove any burs or bends on the serrated side, but I guess I will never know since it was missing.

Wenge handle
Very nice wooden handle. Good serration on the blade. I don't normally like not use serrated blades on regular knives but cutting dirt, seems to be where this type of blade makes the most sense. If I could change something about this hori-hori, I'd round and thin the handle a bit and try to bring the overall weight of the tool down a couple ounces. At the moment it weighs 6.7 oz which, along with the thick square handle, sometimes makes it feel a little unwieldy. I'd also make the belt loop on the sheath much longer to make the knife ride lower and not dig into my back.
