and occasionally he makes a good one. This would be amongst those
Nicolas Cage stars in more movies than any actor I've ever known, and occasionally he makes a good one. This would be amongst those: a devastating indictment of the international arms market as supported by corrupt governments, and a searing picture of one man slowing sinking into the abyss of evil which he creates himself. If you like Yuri's flippantly wicked attitude at the start, you certainly won't by the end... unless, you want Darth Vader to win all along.Ethan Hawke provides good support as a by-the-book Interpol agent, and Bridget Monynahan is effective as Yuri's unsuspecting wife, in fact the whole cast from crazy African despots to impoverished townspeople is great. The only thing I would say is that some of the dialogue is a bit too 'on the nose' in terms of the ongoing battle of good vs evil, and sometimes the plot feels more like a sequence of events instead of having a cohesive narrative. But these are just minor gripes. Most people will come away from this feeling just a little less safe than they were before, and a bit more depressed at the state of the world we live in. And, guess what? These are exactly the emotions the film strives for. Bravo. 7/10

One of Cage's best
Nicholas Cage is, in large, a terrible actor who has accepted many bad films to be in. Con Air is only good on a quasi-parody level, and don't even get me started on Knowing. However, this isn't one of them. Drawing inspiration off of real life arms dealers, this film follows Cage's Ukranian arms dealer as he works he way up in the world. If you can stomach his poor Eastern European accent, the film has an important message about the morality of gun-selling which still rings true today. Both Jared Leto and Ethan Hawke (yes, I said it. Ethan Hawke) are decent supports in this film, playing their own roles well. For those of you who have written Cage off, watch this film as it may surprise you.

Does for Gunrunners what Goodfellas did for gangsters
A surprisingly good movie, this tale of a gunrunner over several decades of his life is not an action movie, and not just a drama. It's an all round look at what it means to be a gunrunner - how it came about that he became one, the good times - the bad. The effect on family and loved ones. At times serious, at times downright funny, often poignant, it's all the way through laced with its own style - a style which manages to pull off the difficult feat of mixing entertaining and thought provoking. Through frequently quite imaginative editing and narrative, the story never gets dull.Cage is good in the role, but it's an all round effective supporting cast which make it really work - making his transition believable. The change from just another immigrant, to a man dabbling in the guns business, to a man sucked in by his own choosing to a world of ugliness by the lure of riches - or rather, as he puts it.. just because it's what he's good at. A particularly effective and revealing moment comes when Cage is faced with a seemingly arbitrary murder during one of his sales pitches with the pistol he is selling. His look of horror is quickly masked and replaced with indignation that the new gun has been soiled by use and is now worth less. It's a theme throughout - at one point is it no longer possible to separate the business of what you are doing from the effect of what you are doing. Does it happen immediately you start down the path - or does it happen after a time? Of note is the contrast to how his brother, played by a fantastic Jared Leto, is affected. How far embroiled in a world can you be without being affected... it's an interesting question, and one made all the more fascinating by the context of how much gunrunning our own governments do routinely, as the movie points out.Definitely recommended as an entertaining blockbuster - but with some brains to go with it.

The crew had many names for that vessel , non really repeatable in polite company !
Yeah this is based on real events , and the cage character Yuri combines aspects of the American dream as he rises up economically and does what he loves-sells guns . The interpol agent who is a straight arrow is on his heels persistently and the conversations they have are funny and I cited what Yuri said in response to the question about the ships name , which yuri had changed to avoid capture . This film educates on the arms trade which I learned about in sociology , and overcoming obstacles and consequences to sometimes pursuing a particular path .

Great film and very entertaining.👍
One of my favourite Nic Cage films that never gets old and a great price and first class service from the seller.👍

Not bad, slightly underwhelming. Sufficiently depressing though.
Not quite as good as I was expecting. And certainly not one of Mr Cage's best efforts.I think the serious bits were not pitched well and the character building bits were (mostly) not sufficiently convincing. Jared Leto was probably the most convincing, despite having a variable script to follow and a mostly unsympathetic character to play.

Very interesting topic
The opening scene of this film shows just how close to the edge of controversial this is going to be. Its a fabulous ride through the world of arms dealing.Went to see it in the cinema, not really knowing what to expect. Walked out knowing I had to own the DVD. I've since shown it to many friends and they agree, as entertainment value its fab, but as talking points about the human condition, its very much up there with Michael Moore documentaries.Entertaining, funny, tense, and a ride and a half - watch it.

Excellent movie that shows mans weakness for killing
Skillfully told and well acted story that just leads you to the darker side of life. Cage is a leads the way.
