Have used my grinder once a week for 4 years and love it!
I've had my grinder since 2004 and I love it! I was going to buy one for a friend so I came to Amazon to do so and was shocked to see all of the people who don't like it! We are "weekend coffee drinkers" who only tend to grind beans once a week on weekends, when we are entertaining or just relaxing around the house. I am usually grinding beans for about 5 or 6 people at a time and I use it, as the instructions say, by grinding only 20 or 30 seconds at a time. I use it for grinding good quality beans to a coarse grind for use in my French Press. I wonder if some of the people whose motors have started smoking or burned out have been keeping the motor running for a few minutes at a time? Or perhaps they have washed the cup in the dishwasher so much with hard water that there is a scale build up? I like the fact that the grinder cup has a plastic lid, so that if I grind too much I can easily save it in the refrigerator. I also like the fact that it is so easy to use and that you just press down on the bar on the top of the clear plastic lid to get it to grind. When you stop pressing the bar, the motor stops. And, I can see inside and decide if I want to grind a bit more or not. Additionally, I like the fact that the grinder is quite compact and can sit on my counter without taking up too much room, plus is stainless steel, so looks good. The best part is that the price is quite reasonable for a lightly used small appliance. I would recommend this grinder to anyone who likes to grind their own beans for use in a French Press occasionally, but it may not be heavy duty enough for daily use (I'll tell you in another 3 years, because that would be the equivalent, I suppose!)

The best item like this around
Had to replace my original one, which was working solidly until I made a mistake and forgot to screw the removable basket in before the next grinding. My fault. I reordered. It is still the best item like this around.

Good, but a little messy
I don't have the problem with uneven grind that has been reported by a couple of other reviewiers. It seems to be best to grind with the cup at least half full. Lesser amounts won't grind as fine. You can grind all day and never get a powder, but it's a fine grind for regular day to day use. The only real problem that I can see is that the ground coffee will make its way past the blade drive mechanism in the bottom of the cup and makes a mess underneath. When you take the cup out you have to clean this out or when you try to reseat the cup it won't fit correctly. Not a big deal, but it would have been nice if they had gone to the trouble to engineer this in a way that would not allow the coffee to escape the cup. Tip: grind for 5 seconds, stop, grind for another 5 seconds, stop, repeat until you get the results you want. This seems to work better than just grinding away for extended periods as the pause and restart seems to mix things up for grinding better. I've found that about 3 or 4 of these 5 second cycles produces a very acceptable result. Grinding for too long causes the motor to begin overheating, and you can smell this happening, but it's not really necessary to grind it that long. After about 15 or 20 seconds it won't get any finer anyway. Not the best on the market, but it's not a $200.00 grinder either. For $30.00 it's an above average deal. I give it a "thumbs up."

removable cup is no longer removable
UPDATED. The removable cup is now stuck on the grinder. So, no longer worth the extra $$. Stick with the Amazon basic!! Great grinder! Removable cup is very convenient and makes for easy cleanup. It was a bit tight at first but loosened up nicely. Quiet too. I had the Amazon Basic grinder as an economical starter (to make sure grinding coffee wasn’t one of my phases) it was a very nice grinder but it lacked the removable cup. Upgraded to this one as I’m still grinding my cup of joe each morning. Love it!

Very nice grinder - significantly quieter than 2 previous other brand grinders
Very nice grinder - significantly quieter than 2 previous Other brand grinders that we had used in the past. This was purchased as a gift for a family member because we have liked ours so much. Buy new and keep an eye on the grinder blade assembly in the grinder cup - my original grinder has had the blade assembly noticeably loosen up in the grinder cup - this has not impacted the function or nose, but this may be a future replacement (the grinder blade-cup assembly is replaceable) - time will tell

A gift that I knew would please!
We've had a Cuisinart coffee grinder for several years and a house guest was impressed with the ease of use. She is getting one for Christmas, along with 2 lbs of coffee beans.
