Highly recommended
Gestalt is not an easy theory to learn. It takes years and training to master it. This book takes the essential parts of this theory and apply them in very easy to do exercises. I recommend this book.

Appears simple but deeply affective and personally effective
I'm a fan of Gestalt and have taken many training workshops to broaden and deepen my professional presence and consulting practice. This casual-seeming book has connected me more deeply and personally to my training. The practices are deceptively simple ( a gestalt practitioner specialty) and a couple of those that I have tried were surprisingly deep in their effect(s) - also a gestalt specialty, at least for me. I have recommended it for the bookshelf where most of my training has occurred, and the reviewer gave it a "thumb's up." I have rated several of my purchases, but this one really called for a written recommendation. It's excellent.

The Author Is A Fraud
The book is supposed to be about Gestalt Therapy, but the author has a side interest in Native American culture and spends about HALF the book talking about Navajo rituals and practices. And, in the LAST sentence of the book, she writes, "I purposely did not write this book just about Gestalt Therapy." Oh really?! Why is that!?! So you could brag about your knowledge of Native American culture? That final sentence in the book should have been a disclaimer on the COVER OF THE BOOK. If the author likes Native American medicine, write a book about THAT. But don't wave your Gestalt credentials and then write a book that's not about what the TITLE says. Total rip-off. Looks like this Gestalt "expert" forgot the teaching on authenticity and honesty. I want a refund!

Useful book; very practical, very real, easy to apply day to day. For counsellors and non-counsellors alike
To give an overview, this is a book of practical exercises and experiments distilled from counselling theory. Nothing ridiculous or 'out there' - mostly things you can do in your head or alone. It's a good book whether or not you're a counsellor and everything is usable.Exercise are organised in themes; for example "Get out of your head" "Authenticity" "Awareness". There is a short introduction to the theme and then the various exercises which target different parts of the theme. Where relevant it is explained how the exercise was developed or why; what the inventors were searching for when they created it or on whose theory the exercise was based. This really helps with appreciating what the exercise is for.Sheldon was around when a lot of people were developing helping theories and openly discusses how others have had influence; such names include Gendlin and Lowen; most counsellors will recognise these immediately.Everything in the book is practical; it's been tried and tested over many years. The introductions aren't a deep dive into philosophies or conjectures; it's straightforward observation (like a naturalist observes) of how people get stuck in a rut and how to get out of it.This is a really useful book; I would recommend.

Well formatted
I like this book, it's practical and can be used on many different levels. I like the format because it suits a person like me that get's bored reading! I also like the illustrations. I don't think it's a book you can read twice though.

Clear, short elementary introduction to Gestalt Psychotherapy
Really pleasant to read ! A good, clear elementary introduction to a wonderful field which is well alive today, either as a stand alone method or as part of other so called Integrative methods

Really enjoyable
Such an enjoyable book. Very thought provoking. Although it's a book about a fairly broad and big subject the author makes it totally accessible and relatable.

Bit too heavy and in depth for me.
Informative book on the subject although it was a bit too heavy in some parts so got mixed thoughts on the book.
