Backpacked in a area that didn’t require bear canisters. Read a lot of reviews about these bags and decided to try them out.. Worked great. No encounters with wild life wanting our food. Maybe we were lucky maybe it wasn’t the bags but hey how does anyone know. We traveled lighter this way and there is a lot of reviews that talk abt the seems ripping easily. Well, that could happen for sure! We were as careful as possible and didn’t overpack the bags and they were fine. Could see that it could have been an issue though. It would be amazing to have this company redo these bags with a stronger more reliable seem at the zipper.

These odor proof bags worked excellently to keep odor to a minimum when in bear country near Cody, Wyoming hunting. We never had any encounters with bears. The bags seal well and had a good capacity for storing food for 5 days. They are easy to use and added very little weight to my hunting pack. I should be able to reuse them for several trips into the backcountry. I highly recommend these for backpacking.

While the bag itself may be good at preventing scents from escaping, the zipper part separated within the first couple of days of a week-long backpacking trip. ETA: I reported this to LOKSAK, and they sent me replacement bags. I was able to provide the lot number from the packaging of the original bags, and apparently they had trouble with that batch.

These are great but I find them to be a bit pricey for the actual times you can reuse them. If you are very careful, they hold up but they get creases and dents in the plastic which is pretty thick and sturdy. They seal and reseal well if you're very careful opening them. Eventually, the top will tear no matter how careful you are. I have been able to use them for two, maybe three trips, depending on what's in them. Again, it's good to have the odor lock and waterproofing but they don't last all that long. The corners are stiff and can poke through things but I use a fairly thick dry bag for my food so it's not an issue

These bags have worked great for years while backpacking. Have had no issues with critters smelling my food inside. You have to be a little careful with them because they will break if you try to force them in a backpack.

I've ordered/used 3 different sizes of the OPSAK. I had issues with the 9x10 size, not just once, but twice. The first set of 2 failed me on the trail the first time out. In this case, the sealing "ridges" separated from the bag, one of the ridges from one side and the other from the other side. This was not just for one of the bags in the 2 set, but for both bags. I sent an email through the company website regarding this, but never heard back (this has been about 3 months ago). Because I really wanted these to work for me, and the other 2 sizes of bags seemed to work well (and have for almost 200 miles on the trail), I went ahead and ordered another set of 2 9x10 bags. These again failed, not just the first time on the trail, but the very first day. This time the clear plastic on one side of the bag let go of the greenish seal portion. And again, not just one, but both of the bags in the set. Needless to say, I am disappointed... not just in the quality control of these bags (I point to QC, as the two other sizes did not seem to have the same issue, and bags manufactured at a later or earlier date may be fine), but in the lack of response from LOKSAK to my issue. I have since ordered 9x10 bags from a different company to replace the failed OPSAKs (but have not had a chance to put them to use).

Our scouting group did a backpacking trip in the back country of Mammoth Cave National Park recently. Don't have to worry about bears there but there is plenty of other wildlife that would love to snack on our food (mice, raccoons, etc.). Each boy got one of these bags to hold all of their food for meals/snacks plus any toiletries that are scented (e.g. toothpaste, deodorants). These easily held 3 days of meals. Very durable - none of them ripped or tore despite being taken out of/put in packs all weekend. VERY good at containing odors - jerky and other strong smelling food could not be smelled when the bags were zipped closed. Highly recommend!

These are your answer to bear and mice invasion. If a creature can't smell your food it's not coming around. I often laugh at hikers who still use bear hangs full of smelly food.
