Transformers/Ghostbusters: Ghosts of Cybertron

Me Grimlock ain’t afraid of no ghosts
After last year’s crossover with another big science fiction franchise, Star Trek, the Transformers universe now collides with the paranormal as the Autobots team up with the Ghostbusters.Originally published in comic format for five issues, this is the first time the full story is collected together in one volume. Just as the Star Trek crossover was more orientated around the seventies animated series than the live action original, ‘Ghosts of Cybertron’ takes it basis from ‘The Real Ghostbusters’ cartoon and comic.‘Ghosts of Cybertron’ is an enjoyable romp that, due to being combined with Ghostbusters, is more humour orientated than the Star Trek crossover. This makes for an amusing plot that shamelessly rewrites the traditional ‘start’ of the Transformers overall story. Thus, when the Autobots flee Cybertron in the Ark the Decepticons don’t follow and become preoccupied with other ‘concerns’.The four Ghostbusters as well as Janine all obviously feature but the story is, perhaps, a little light on actual Transformers. This is really a vessel for new Autobot Ectotron. He is definitely the main character of the story. It is he who initiates the visit to Earth and first meets the Ghostbusters. A few other Autobots appear but these are generally token cameos from favourites such as Bumblebee, Grimlock and Ironhide and they remain upon the Ark instead of becoming directly involved with the action. Only Optimus Prime (in his new Ghostbusters livery) plays a major role in the story alongside Ectotron. Of course, it is these two that have toys/figures released to commemorate this crossover.Only four Decepticons have worthwhile roles - Megatron, Shockwave, Soundwave and Starscream. A few others appear in some frames. Interestingly it looks as if one of these is Hotlink. Acidstorm appeared in the Star Trek crossover alongside some of the most famous Decepticons shortly before a new figure of him was released (part of War for Cybertron: Siege) and now Hotlink who is due to get a special edition Siege figure. It is Starscream, though, who receives top billing amongst the Decepticons, appearing as a ghost and trying to manipulate both the Ghostbusters and other ghosts. Of course, he has been a ghost before, first in the eighties cartoon but also various times since in such things as Beast Wars and Prime Wars. There have even been a couple of toys/figures of Starscream as a ghost.Once more, like the Star Trek crossover, there is a lot of additional artwork included of scenes that don’t feature in the story at all but are pleasant enough diversions. Amongst these are also pictures of the Ectotron and Ghostbuster coloured Optimus Prime toys.

Ghosts of Cybertron
Loved it!!! Transformers and Ghostbisters were two of my favourite show of the 80s. So my opinion biases set my expectations sky high.this book truly delivered.I have the awesome generation art of the Ttansformer. I really liked how the Ghostbusters were incorporated into the story. I also liked how the in case of the Cybertronian ghosts the Ghostbusters were better equipped to deal with it then the technologically advanced Transformers.I loved everything about this book, the artwork the story and action. There was even a fight between Prime and Megatron. I even like Prime's new colour scheme. If you are a fan of either Transformersor Ghostbusters this book more than does them justice. The book finishes with a cover gallery, with full page spreads of all the covers. A must have for fans.

Ohh, that's quality.
Takes the concept of What if/Ghost Starscream and runs with it. A little on the 'here's [x character] because there's a toy line to sell at frankly insane prices' side at one point, but otherwise pays good service to both franchises in the crossover. Buy ten!
