Perfect for Authentic Chinese Calligraphy Practice!
I’m thrilled with this rice paper! As someone who grew up practicing Chinese calligraphy, I can confidently say this product matches the quality of the traditional materials I used back home. The texture is just right—smooth enough for fluid brushstrokes, yet with enough "tooth" to hold ink beautifully without bleeding. It’s durable enough for repeated practice but still captures the delicate elegance that makes calligraphy so rewarding.Whether you’re a beginner learning the basics or an experienced artist refining your technique, this paper is a fantastic choice. It’s also great value for the quantity you get in one pack. Highly recommend to anyone serious about mastering Chinese calligraphy—it truly feels like the real deal!

High Quality Paper for Chinese Brush Writing / Painting
I have been using various Chinese imported paper brands over the years for my Chinese brush writings. This brand as good or better than any other ones that I have ever used. It has a smooth side and a slight coarse side. I can clearly see the beautiful fibers of paper well. It takes ink well. I am very grateful that this Megrez vendor is making this high quality papers available from China to us in U.S. in a matter of 1 day !!

Rubbing
Granted, this is the first xuan paper I have ever used. I am spoiled on Japanese Kozo, Okawara, Arches, Fabriano, etc etc. I needed a paper to use for traditional Chinese rubbing, and this is NOT it. It is essentially the consistency of tissue paper for gift wrapping; it tears at the slightest stress because the fibers are very short, and any ink floods the paper like mad.UPDATE 8/14/20: I've used this paper for several rubbings, and there is definitely a learning curve in using it: how wet your ink should be, wind and temperature considerations. And while it does rip extremely easily when wet, and has a narrow optimal tolerance for ink, it really is a good deal for the price. I would recommend it as a practice paper

Not what I expected but still good paper
I wasn’t sure how this paper would work for calligraphy pens so I tried it it.That’s a no on the metal pens. They tear the paper up and the ink just gets soaked up quickly. However, with that said, I believe this paper would work well with water color inks and brush or something like that. It’s very dainty, almost feels like soft toilet paper, easy to tear, but it is also at the same time pretty sturdy, it’s not like tissue that tears apart when it gets wet from the ink.I would recommend this for someone doing brush and ink calligraphy or water color art. Strongly discourage if intending to use metal calligraphy pens.Glass nibbed calligraphy pen may work, my new one arrives tomorrow so I may be editing this review after trying it out.

This is very nice paper for a very reasonable price!
This is not expert-quality paper. But, this is the nicest student-quality paper that you can buy for an excellent price. When you are in the process of learning a new Chinese-Brush painting technique or working on a new subject, you don't want to use up your expensive paper. Yet, most lower-priced papers don't give you the absorbency or liveliness that this paper gives. And, if your "practice" piece turns out to be a masterpiece, I believe this will mount just fine for framing! I am very impressed with this paper!! By the way, I use the "raw" xuan which has the most absorbency and is the liveliest for Asian-style brush painting. Ripe or semi-ripe mean that they are less absorbent. Less absorbent paper makes it easier for Chinese Calligraphy but inhibits the ability to get lovely greys and wet-on-wet effects in your paintings.
