Winch is factory perfect again. Like new performance. Easy user fix.
Factory perfect and well packaged with fast prime delivery. Very easy to install if your reasonably handy. Just be aware there are no instructions. I would budget 1 hour on a 9.5XP plus time to get at it if your with is recessed as in my case. Another reviewer was not happy with the packaging but I was. Mine was very secure for a heavy motor. It arrived in a compact strong box that protects the exposed shaft and has a plastic bracket to temporarily hold the motor, cap and brushes together during transport and before your ready to install it. Motor was factory new / perfect and included the seal I needed. Removing and reinstalling my recessed Warn 9.5XP-S winch is a 1 hour process to get to it and 1 hour to put it back so I needed a replacement I could trust.NOTE on rebuilding: Rebuilding or cleaning up the old motor can be done but I had a reliability is an issue when I did it myself. My motor went bad because I dunked it in a mud pit a few times and the drain holes clogged. It did not let out the some water / moisture. Although a simple issue the 1 hour corroded brush clean up lasted less than a year. If your winch stops or is sputtering try rapping it with a hammer while engaged and power is applied. An improvement when the hammer makes impact is a connection issue and most likely you have similar brush issue. (you did check power cables first before motor shopping or dissasembling I hope?)

Used with warn 83664 contactor pack. This warn 9.5xp motor will fit on a warn m8000 winch. Bolt on. The gear ratio are a little different. Winch seems a little faster under no load and has plenty of power. Replaced my motor cause it got damaged in a roll over in my Jeep xj. I can keep anything the same alway trying to upgrade when replacing parts.

Motor great, packaging sub-par.
Packaging, as stated in other reviews, should be better. Motor arrived with holes in the box. Motor had some scuffing and scratching; motor works fine. Review is for the motor itself and it delivers as expected. Quiet and powerful. Put on my Warn 9000 and it was a direct fit.

Motor upgrade 8274, fits perfectly fine
Did the motor upgrade on my 1980 8274 to the XP splined shaft motor here and haven't had a chance to use it yet other than testing and it's a quieter running motor than the old standard motor, can't say if it's anyfaster/slower than the old one but I'll come back after a use and post out comeReport back 11/29/19.. I am returning to add to my beginning post,. Iv used my rebuilt 8274 with the new motor and it has done better than the old motor, it's pulled my Jeep out of some rather bad situations .. I HIGHLY recommend you get this motor!

Must-have upgrade for 8274.
I paired this beast with a new splined pinion gear (Warn #15879) to upgrade the pulling capacity of my Warn 8274 winch (circa 1977). My old Prestolite motor was on its last legs, and at ~2 HP, it wasn't winning any races. This new motor is faster, stronger, and in all ways better than the original. Buy once, cry once - if you're trying to upgrade an aging 8274, skip the current stock 4.5 and go straight to this bad boy!

6HP motor for M12000
I installed this on a Warn M12000 that I bought used with a bad motor. It bolted right up just like the original motor, and has worked well so far. I had to clearance the end cap of the new motor just a little with an angle grinder to get the winch to fit inside the ARB front bumper on my 80 series. Very happy with how it turned out.

Defective motor
Worked about 30 seconds. This motor is made in china the same as a $100 no name brand. Gasket was torn in two and unusable. Box looked like it had seen more than one time through the mail. I probably got a reshelved motor. Very disappointing given the length of time it took to ship. Also, the threads on the terminals are cut in such a way that it's almost impossible to get them back on, because the idea is to make it impossible for them to back all the way off if they loosen. This makes the nut at the bottom of the terminal come loose from the housing. You have to use two wrenches. Given the price of this motor, I expected better quality control. Shame on Warn.
