Would this be considered an upgrade from tz50?

TY300 is an upgrade to TZ50 28 to 34T low sprocket on TY300 vs only 28T on TZ50 14 to 11T high sprocket on TY300 vs only 14T on TZ50 TZ50-GS has medium cage but chain capacity is not listed TY300-SGS has long cage with 43T capacity The TZ50 would be suited for 2X road bike gearing The TY300 could do that plus 3X touring and moderate trails

can you install this without changing/removing or cutting the chain? are the sprockets removable?

You have to use a chain break to install a new derailleur using the old chain, or you can buy a new chain with a quick link which is easier to install and requires no tools. There is no reason to remove the pulleys.

Would this work on a 10 speed set up? or is it just for 7 speeds specifically

It won't work on a 10 speed. It will work on a 8 speed. You have to remember you also have to change the shifter on the handle bars also when you start changing things around. I bought this to upgrade the one on a tandem bike. Shimano make great products.
