Clove Brown Wood Stain & Sealer 5 Gallon Size

Used this stain when we built house in 2010. Restrained this year. Excellent product and customer service. Had 2 5 gallon pails left over and no problem returning one. Do wear protective clothing. It affected me but not my wife.

I have used this product for many years on my deck and railings. I selected it because I was staining IPE, which is a very dense and oily South American wood. It definitely has a pungent odor and is somewhat annoying. I find that it coats the wood well and lasts for about three years on the horizontal surfaces. It lasts even longer on the vertical surfaces (balusters). Because I did not have time to apply the stain, it has worn for the past many years, but still seemed to mostly be protecting the wood (there is some level of greying). I think it will last even longer after I stain the more weathered wood. I've been happy with the product and find it is easy to apply and I think it lasts a reasonable amount of time for a deck stain. I also like the finished look of the stain (I use Clove Brown). I find that the product only fades over time, it has never peeled like some stains. I would definitely recommend it, especially if you are trying to stain one of the more difficult woods.

We sealed our new deck with One Time Wood in 2012. It didn't last 7 years as advertised. We had to stain the deck again in 2015 and again in 2020. Our deck does get a lot of intense sun, but we had hoped the product would have lasted longer...especially considering the high price.

The product looks great with straight forward application. That said, the product is really expensive and doesn't cover the sq/ft as, I at least, expectated.Their website states 200-250 sq/ft. I'm sure that's just an estimate. I bought 7 gallons for just under 1400 sq ft of fence. Started the project yesterday and quickly realized it wasn't going nearly as far as I expected. I'm getting about 100 sq/ft per gallon. This is new rough sawn cedar. I did notice after I received my order, on the actual product packaging it states the RS cedar might be 150 sq/ft per gallon.I guess this is a buy once cry once situation (or now twice with buying extra product).If the product weathers as it states, I'll be satisfied.I have to knock at least one star off for having to spend another 360-500 bucks to finish my project.
