so my accuracy wasn't the greatest - and provided the prompt to break down and ...
This is one of those tools that makes you stop and say "do I really need this?" After all, I had been managing so-so just by measuring a quarter inch from each side and drawing a line, marking a larger dot where the seam lines intersect. It worked, but is time consuming. I will also mention that I was previously using a chalk pencil, so my accuracy wasn't the greatest - and provided the prompt to break down and buy this. I had seen Jinny Beyer using it in her Craftsy class, but I was resisting the urge to buy yet another gadget. After having to tear apart a block for the 4th time due to inset seams not matching, I pulled the plug. With this device, I simply lay it on the appropriate angle and mark the dot, very quickly and accurately. The dots along the edge let you also mark the quarter inch line at intervals to help keep a straight line when hand stitching. The holes are very small, so you would need a mechanical pencil....I opted for another tool, the Sewline chalk mechanical pencils. The small holes force us to use a smaller marking tool, but it also improves accuracy. My inset seams now go together beautifully. There is another benefit to this tool. At one point, I thought it was my stitching or marking that was the problem - it was actually that I cut my diamonds wrong. A little slip with the ruler when cutting is easy to miss, but this tool makes it very easy to lay on the patch and check its angles. The most common 5 or 6 angles used in quilting are on the tool. There is also a dotted line along the edge that you can use to check your scant quarter inch.If you do any type of inset seams or angles in your quilting...or just want better precision on your triangles (who doesn't) - the perfect piecer will definitely save you time and frustration.

Very handy!
Bought this to mark 1/4 inch seams and points on hand piecing. Haven't used it for marking angles or anything, so I'm sure I'm underusing it, but I'm sure I'll learn more as I go.

Just great.
I have wanted one of these for ages, why are they so difficult to obtain in the U.K. A most useful addition to my piecing tools.

Not so perfect piecer
I purchased this item over a year ago. I have yet to use it. The directions are not clear. I sew 3-5 days a week and I design my projects. Perhaps this piecer would work well with a pattern designed to incorporate it. The construction is sound, with easy to read markings. Anyone out there have instructions? I would be so very grateful.

I haven't been able to use this tool yet. Looking forward to starting a new project and learning new techniques.

My New Favorite Quilting Tool
I have recently started hand piecing and came across one of Jinny's videos where she demonstrates this tool. I like it so much that I've purchased a 2nd one so i could keep one at home and one in my "to go" case. While I still need lines for my hand piecing, the tool is also great for marking Y seams or any place you want to sew dot to dot for the perfect 1/4" seam on the machine. Some reviews state they wished there were better instructions. Here's the video I mentioned earlier: [...]I highly recommend this tool for both hand and machine piecers.

A quilters tiara
I bought this as it was recommended for Lone Star quilts. I used it today for tumbling blocks. Perfect y seams! One can get by without this tool by measuring precisely, but this is worth the small investment. And this is coming from someone that doesn't like extra rulers and tools that aren't needed. The only drawback, regular pencils will not work. Go with something mechanical for this.Hillbilly Tonya from HillbillyHandiworks (dot)com--a fun quilters blog!

Useful Sewing Notion
This is a useful sewing notion and can help with where to start and end Y-seams. You need a narrow chalk pencil or similar way to mark through the holes. This item is discussed in Jinny Beyer's book about hand quilting. It is actually smaller than it might look in the picture, but this does not affect its usability. I will note, however, that I was disappointed to learn that my local quilt shop sells it for more than five dollars less. I can usually count of amazon Prime to automatically give the lowest price on items along with the free shipping, but it appears that this is no longer the case. I have noticed that amazon Prime items are starting to be more expensive, perhaps to make up the cost of the shipping (this is in addition to raising the cost of a Prime membership). I advise checking other sources before ordering.
