Excellent practical advice for aspiring entrepreneurs and those in leadership positions.
Excellent practical advice for aspiring entrepreneurs and those in leadership positions. “Shut Up and Listen!” is also an enjoyable and entertaining read with multiple examples of successes and failures from the real business world. Being in the gaming industry I know that nothing is more important than making people feel special, regardless of their bankroll. You build customer loyalty by paying attention to the small issues so that they never become big issues. Everyone is a “high roller” relative to their bankrolls. All of these concepts and much more are well articulated in this book. In this modern economy all products and services must be focused on hospitality to thrive. This book is worth your time and compliments other hospitality classics such as “Setting the Table” and “The Disney Way”.

Words written in blood
This book is a must-read for anyone who is even just thinking about opening a business. After owning several businesse i can honestly tell you, it could take you a year or more to reach a failure point in your business and learn just a single lesson. In this book every tip provided literally would save you that year of struggeling in business! Combine all the tips in the book and you've just saved yourself years of struggle. Everything mention in the book was written after a breaking point where you say to yourself "i should tattoo this on my hand to never make this mistake again". Great book. One tip I would add to this book:Funding - don't give away part of the business ownership (to partners, angels, VCs) unless it really gives your business a big boost. Remember, when you give away part ownership, first, you now have to answer to another person when making decisions. Second, financially you cut down on you profit percentage, make sure it's worth it.Enjoy the book :)

Practical and Quick Read
Very practical advice and was a rather quick read. I felt like he could have expanded on some of his ideas, and some of his stories seem a little embellished but overall it was a good read.

Great Book for Business and Life
Great book. It is 100% applicable to business, but about 80% is applicable to many other aspects of life. I’m a frequent visitor to the San Luis Resort and I see Tillman Targets applied everyday. Whether it’s a boss like Mr Schulz or John Paul, a manager like Edwardo or Ozzie or a bartender like Jarred or a waitress like Katelyn they pay attention to every detail to make your visit great. I love his chapter about don’t say NO! His messages in each chapter are succinct and right on target. I’m retired now, but I walked away with many lessons I can apply to my life even now. It’s a quick read, but priceless!

A good, straightforward read
Insightful if not entertaining with solid common sense oriented business logic. I enjoyed the read and found his business acumen to be straightforward.

What an outstanding book!
I read this book earlier this year (a fast read) and provided my review. Although I gave it a 5 rating and learned some good points from this book, I was not thrilled. I recently read it twice due to working from home, and this time word-by-word and thought a lot about my entrepreneur journey, this book made so much more sense. Mr. Fertitta is in the restaurant/hotel/casino business (vs pharmaceutical consulting which my company is in), but the key principles leading to business successes are the same. When you read this book, as Tilman suggested, Shut Up and Listen, you will gain a lot more. Also, make sure that you read the last chapter (The Tilman I know), it says a lot about the author and the book. Thanks to Tilman for this wonderful book.

Eh...
I've read 100's of business books and this book covers much of what I've already read. (It's common business sense. Nothing ground breaking). It's a short book and really didn't impress me. He's definitely a great businessman but he should stick to business. Leave writing books to someone else.
