Eddington’s Italian Olive Wood Cooking Spoon, Handcrafted in Europe

This is a lovely, attractive, and well made spoon. I got a very nice olive wood grain on my sample. Initially, I thought they were assembled from two pieces , the spoon body and the handle. However, when I looked at it closely this evening, the grain showed me it was one solid piece. It's just that the handle is lathe turned. To be sure, I even looked at the spoon end of the handle with a 10x loupe. Really nicely made and wish I had a need for two. Or three!

This spoon is just lovely to cook with, especially in my Le Crueset dutch oven. It doesn't scratch. It's the perfect size for stirring veggies and sauces. It's a really nice looking spoon, too. I wash mine by hand but I forgot to oil it. It lasted 7 years before developing a crack in the stem. That's my fault. I'm buying another I love it so much.

I never really got the big deal about wooden spoons until I got this one, and now I get it. It makes it easy to stir food while cooking without scratching the pots. You don't worry about plastic, silicone or metals possibly leaching into your food (I'm sure the likelihood of that is small anyway, but still, why risk it?). It smells great and THIS SPECIFIC spoon, made of olive wood by HIC, is non-porous and easy to clean.I also bought HIC's olive wood spatula because they are that great, and the spatulas are awesome for flipping burgers or stirring foods in a skillet. I've tried other materials, and even other woods, but olive wood is the best. It doesn't fall apart, splinter, or really absorb the food (so it seems safer- my bamboo spoon started to splinter early on and was hard to clean, and I worried about touching raw meat or eggs with it because it's more porous).I clean it by rinsing it with water, rubbing salt on it, and letting it air dry before storing it again. These spoons ROCK! And they are beautiful too :)

Honestly, when I purchased this spoon I was simply looking for a nice Olive Wood utensil. What I received was a very substantial spoon, with a very nice, deep recess. A lot of times when you get a wooden spoon, the 'bowl' or recess is barely enough to hold a measurable amount of liquid - at least that's been my experience. This spoon has a nice, deep well and the handle is nice and sturdy. I absolutely love it. The spoon I received looks slightly different than the spoon pictured (it's thicker), but I'm pleased with that. What I got was a gorgeous, smooth spoon that I don't worry about breaking if I tap it a little hard to remove excess material. There was an initial problem with shipping as the first never made it to me (I didn't notice that it was shipping from Jerusalem), but the shipper was kind enough to replace and re-ship once I made them aware of the issue. I received a lovely email and apology. Bottom line, great spoon and great service :)

The spoon is beautiful and very study. Only downside if there’s red splotch/marks on it, could be some sort of stain or paint? Not sure. Going to try and sand it off.

This is a particularly beautiful spoon. Lovely to see, nice to hold, balanced and silky smooth. Definitely a step up from most wooden spoons.

This is a beautiful spoon to look at! I made butternut squash soup and it felt good in the hand. The handle is a bit longer than I'm comfortable with. I would rather have shorter spoon.

Beautiful and functional piece. My new "nonna cooking spoon". Well made and designed, and excellent value for the money. But perhaps of equal importance, the item delivered actually matched the product description and picture on the site (all too often not the case, nowadays). Highly recommended.
