One of Rachel McAdams' best movies!
For anyone who loves Rachel McAdams, then you'll love this one!"Red Eye" is a thriller! It's creepy and may make you not want to fly on an airplane ever again. At the very least, it may keep you from talking to a complete stranger in the airport or next to you on the plane."Red Eye" follows the life of a young woman, Lisa, who is on the way home after her grandmother has died. She works for a high end hotel and ends up getting called while she's gone. While waiting in line to check in, people complain and since she's from a customer service background she tries to calm the crowd. Being irrate isn't going to get them anywhere. She ends up getting help from one other person in line and he asks her if she'll meet him for a drink before the flight.Lisa ends up going to meet up with the guy even though she wasn't going to. He tries to guess her drink order and almost gets it. They end up boarding and sitting right next to each other. Once the plane is in the air, he reveales to her that he needs her to do something or he's going to have people kill her father. He wants her to arrange for a special high profile guest to be relocated to a different room, so that he'll be easier to kill.Lisa resists for a while and with the storm blowing them about, the phones on the plane go in and out.Eventually, Lisa ends up having them relocate the guest, but she isn't about to give up, especially when she realizes that the guest she relocated will be visiting this time with his family. She doesn't want to see the wife and two children killed as well. She tries to leave clues, but he finds them before anyone can see them every time. When the plane touches down, Lisa takes action to get away. She makes it all the way home and finds herself in an all new battle. Saving her father isn't the only thing she has to do, she has to save her guest and his family at her hotel as well.

Highly recommended to those who like strong, independent main characters.
I really love this movie. It is tough to find anywhere. Most stores don't carry it at all, and it isn't available on Vudu where I get most of my digital movies. I will willing to pay $10 for that reason. The movie itself is about a woman named Lisa (Rachel McAdams, from The Hot Chick and The Notebook) who is the manager of a hotel called The Lux Atlantic. She meets a real charmer (Cilian Murphy, from 28 Days Later and Batman Begins) at the airport on her way back from her grandmother's funeral, and at first there seems to be a nice spark between them. Some cutesy banter is exchanged, and he ends up sitting next to her on the plane back to her home. While on the plane, he reveals his intention to assassinate a high-profile guest at her hotel, and he requires her help in doing so. She tries to refuse, as her family is apparently close with this person. She is black mailed, and she has her hands tied. However, she fights back, and the rest of the movie is a nice action-thriller.I like girl-power movies, and I like action flicks with substance. This has both. These actors are really good at what they do, and it actually gave me new respect for McAdams after The Hot Chick. I thought I wouldn't be able to take her seriously, but she does an amazing job at being in the character zone with every movie she appears in. Murphy is the same way; he's an excellent villain. Highly recommended, especially to strong, independent women, or women who need to see another woman kick some butt for a change.

Intense
Why you need to be choosy who you talk to or sit beside in the airport, they just maybe trying to blackmail you to do something evil. At first you are taken in by the blue eyed stranger thinking he is just a nice fellow passenger who helps a girl in distress. NOPE! It wouldn't be nice for me to give away the plot line, so I'll try to get you to see it without revealing too much.It is set in the Hitchcock style, the main star gets in deeper and deeper with no seeming way out. You are brought into Rachel McAdams world as she is trying to get home after a funeral. She meets Cillian Murphy who turns out to be the middle man for some very bad people. Now for most of the movie they are trapped on an airplane. Wes Craven, who is the master at scaring you, directs this little thriller. Wow what an awesome job. He pulls you into their lives and your heart is pounding to see how she will get out of the dilemma she finds herself in.Brian Cox does an excellent job as her dad. The way they move when they are talking on the phone, for example, really lends to the "reality" of the relationship. It has just enough action to keep your attention but the story is where this movie finds its strength. After all we, well most have flown in a plane before. We have hoped not to sit beside someone weird or too talkative. So now this will be added to the back of our minds, who is really sitting beside us?

Cat and Mouse Game at Cruising Height
Seldom have I enjoyed a film as much as this one. The story is straight foreward enough: A politician is to be assassinated. A young woman can arrange for him to be in the right place at the right time without causing suspicion. A young man has the job to convince her to do so. What makes the film work so well is the way it's set up. Lisa (Rachel McAdams) boards her delayed flight and finds she is seated beside the attractive young businessman Jackson (Cillian Murphy) with whom she has already had a drink in the airport bar. And just when you're ready for a romance to blossom between the two, he reveals himself as the devious criminal he really is and makes his demands, threatening her father will die if she doesn't do as she is told. What unfolds is a deadly game of cat and mouse between two desperate people, who look to all around them like a young couple having a minor quibble. The performances of the two leads are outstanding. Rachel McAdams finds just the right balance between fear and distress on the one hand and courage and intelligence on the other to make her character believable and relatable. Cillian Murphy is superb as the villain of the piece. So charming is he throughout that one can't help but root for him.The supporting cast is equally good. The minor characters are highly entertaining and add a welcome touch of quirky comedy. There is the serious 11 year old girl who manages to freak out Murphy's character, the nice old lady who travels in combat boots, the cougar who tries a little too hard to catch the eye of the attractive young villain who has to keep up appearances but can't afford to take his eyes off his hostage for one moment. Most fun of all is the complaining lady in the hotel who opens and closes the film, and who is played, apparently, by a marketing executive. Well, I hope somebody gave her more work in front of the camera, because she is pure comedic gold! She makes you walk away from this film with a chuckle. And that's never a bad thing.Full marks also for director Wes Craven who wasn't afraid to tighten the plot and be left with a rather shorter than average film of well under 90 minutes. Possibly this has something to do with the apparently all important 13 PG rating which may also have been a reason that scenes of gore and violence were either never filmed or ended up on the floor in the cutting room. The sparing use of blood and violence is more than made up for by moments of supreme suspense, expertly created by the master of horror Mr. Craven is.The DVD includes several extra features, among them a short making of featurette, a gag reel and a feature length commentary. Well worth owning, especially if you're a fan of either of the two leads.

Mile high thriller
For an hour, this is one of the tightest, edge of your seat thrillers ever made. Wes Craven takes his time setting up the characters of Rachel McAdams and Cillian Murphy, their expectant meeting, and the set up on the plane. In fact, it fairly plods along, but in such an interesting way you won't mind. You're so interested in these characters, that the factthat the film doesn't really start until 30 minutes in is irrelevant - because when it gets good, it gets very good.Putting it simply, so not to spoil any new viewers, Murphy's character hold McAdams character hostage on the plane without anybody knowing. As she tries to alert people to her fate, her plans get ingeniously better, and its keep you guessing how she'll be able to escape.Murphy particularly is brilliant, all easy friendliness covering up a bonkers mad criminal. McAdams too is spot on as lady in peril. Half the fun is watching the events unfold on the plane, and how Murphy's character will stop them. However, come the ending, Craven resorts to his tried and tested slasher material. Although decent, it lacks the sinister edge of the previous hour, and becomes far moretraditional. The airport chase is absurd, and loses the film it's fifth star. How can you run unchecked through an airport without going through passport control or without the guards clocking on?Still, the finale in the house is jump worthy material, and makes up for the slightly soggy airport section. Different, fresh and exciting, this was a real surprise treat, and I would highly recommend it for some Friday night easy entertainment.
