Great Device
I've already have a Garmin watch, and was looking for practical Garmin computer to help with my new fitness regime. I decided to go for the Garmin 830, being that it was a Garmin, with good reviews in the mid price range. And I have to say, I'm very happy with it, being it's the perfect size, touch screen excellent with many great tools/readings that you can bespoke to display in a number of different layouts. It's was highly recommended and has lived up to my expectations. Once ordered, the delivery was smooth, quick and without drama. I would happily order again from this company.

I like this for touring
I only use it for recording my bicycle tours for strava. The battery will last at least three days.

Very expensive mistake
Edge 830 purchased Dec 2020 2 stars for reliability beyond warranty. Great hardware let down by dodgy software updates. Difficult to believe that it's not an unspoken strategy to keep folks buying the next model. Worked great until 4 months beyond the 2 year warranty when the touch screen started playing up. Finally after installing a 'GPS firmware update' yesterday, the touchscreen has become unusable. Only the buttons still work however those provide only limited functionality. I suspect that the button version, i.e. the 530, would probably still work OK. Having had a number of premium head units over the last decade from this manufacturer I reached the conclusion that the best strategy where this manufacturer is concerned is to: 1. Note the purchase date 2. Put a reminder in the phone calendar for a future date a month short of the warranty expiry date 3. Decline all updates while using it 4. Then before the warranty expires, flog it on a well known Internet based marketplace while it still works and while I can still get a decent price for it 5. Move onto their next model 6. Repeat Their customer support are famous for being waste of time even while the warranty is still valid so I wouldn't even bother trying now it's expired.

Won’t connect to anything!
This device is so hard to connect to wifi or my phone. Makes it almost useless. Feels like a complete waste of money.

I use this on my road bicycle every time I go out. I love that I can select which items I want on my main screen and which arrangement best suits my needs. I like time, temperature, speed, %grade, & trip distance traveled. Your smart phone enables safety features to notify your emergency contacts. There is also an alarm to alert you to someone tampering with your bike. The signals for drink reminders and for approaching traffic (if you have the optional radar component) are easily heard, and displays are easily read. I fell once, and the attachments were very secure. What I wish I could do is add 'undocumented' miles (at first, I'd forget to turn on the Garmin). I love being able to see the degree of rise in hills and also to know the temperature. I don't use any extra monitors, so cannot comment on their effectiveness. Mapping features have been little used by me. I know the maps are accurate, but have never ridden in an area where I needed them. This piece of equipment is TMI for some, but I really appreciate having the info, and there are a number of features I have not yet used. I highly recommend this Garmin!

I replaced my ailing Edge 800 with an Edge 830. I’m pleased that the 830’s display is far more readable on my morning rides when the sun is low in the sky—a welcome improvement. Bootup, GPS acquisition time and battery life are improved, too. The internal maps are amazing. I’m surprised to see the detail of our local riding paths (not streets). One gripe: The main display shows distance, large and very readable, but speed is displayed in a much smaller font. With old eyes and vibration, it can be hard to read. There’s plenty of room on the display to make fonts larger. Why not? Operation is semi-intuitive but you can get lost among all the menus and widgets. The printed manual is no help as none of this is covered. Go on-line for complete descriptions. To find features that are buried deep in menus, search the internet… “Edge 830 [your desired feature].” The Garmin Connect phone app has lots of fancy features to encourage your riding activity such as earning “badges” for your progress. Here again, it’s easy to get lost among all the features and menus. The app connects via Bluetooth to the 830 during and after a ride. If you’re a gadget geek, you’ll love it. If not, you might consider a more basic model. For a very complete review and description of features, search the web for “dcrainmaker Edge 830.” This impartial review compares the 830 with other models and has many screen photos.
