Does exactly what I needed
I have SPDIF "Out" connected from my HTPC motherboard's back panel to my reciever for 5.1 HD for movies, music, etc. However I record HD movies thru a Haupauge PVR from Satellite and wanted to record the HD sound as well as the HD movie, but my motherboard's back panel did not have an SPDIF "in" (most don't). The motherboard itself has a socket for this though and it was simple to plug in the 3 pin connector from the Gigabyte adapter. It installed flawlessly. Connected the "Optical Out" from the PVR to the "Optical In" on the slot cover and now I have HD sound recording with my HD movies. Love it!

Cable connector is perfect, the problem is the motherboard sound device
If you have a Gigabyte MB and need a digital sound input, it is exactly what you need. The problem is, Realtek sound cards does not permit AC3 (5.1 Dolby encoded sound) to pass from S/PDIF to your system (there are plenty of forum discussions about it). So, for example, receive 5.1 digital sound from my cable tv decoder and send to my speakers was not possible (2-audio channel input is OK and perfect). So, it depends on what you need, this can be of no help at all...

As expected
This works exactly as it should. Connecting it up was simple, and aside from some minor configuration in the OS for it, the process was painless. That being said, I ended up getting a professional sound card for music recording shortly after this which had optical inputs. When I tried to disconnect this from the motherboard, it ended up pulling the plastic plug completely off the board, leaving behind the prongs. It's easy enough to put the plug back onto the prongs, but that should NEVER happen. So, just be wary if you have to remove it.

Works perfectly
Fit my motherboard and worked as described. A good quality item replacing a discontinued original part.

Works as advertised.
Solid little piece, saving me a lot of money until 64 bit drivers are developed by Roland/Edirol, which may never happen. (Side note: word to the wise don't buy Edirol audio interfaces if you ever plan on upgrading your system!!)
