The Mind Workout: Twenty steps to improve your mental health and take charge of your life

A must-read guide for improving your mental fitness.
When I was in the worst grips of my obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) I turned to online forums for support and heard of Mark's YouTube channel. I became an immediate fan due to his positive attitude, sense of humor, adorable stick figures, and the fact that he was the only person talking about RECOVERY from mental illness at the time. I didn't want any more tips to avoid anxiety by taking pills, eating salads or lighting candles. I was ready to put my anxiety in the rearview mirror for good! I couldn't wait for the U.S. version of Mark's book and ordered a copy. Although I am pretty sure he is spelling "practise" wrong (haha), this book really is a must-have on your shelf if you want to tackle an anxiety disorder or improve your mental fitness. I have actually attacked my copy with a highlighter and I use it as a workbook because certain paragraphs have really resonated with me and allowed me to change my mindset. I think if someone were to suggest something to me like focusing on changing actions instead of thoughts I would feel overwhelmed, but he puts things into a different light with his analogies and exercises which make the action seem possible. Anyone can learn to swim, after all! This book showed me how avoiding the things making me anxious were pulling me farther from my goals and pushing me deeper into the grips of anxiety. After learning these 20 steps I know that I have to keep stepping in the direction of my values regardless of how many times I stumble. This guide has made all of the stuff in my head a lot easier to navigate. Mark, thank you for taking the time to share your experiences and wisdom with us all.

A must read for anyone looking to improve mental health
Dealing with ocd(anxiety) is never easy. Having someone who’s been through the process and has come out the otherside is invaluable. Mark has done a masterful job sharing his experience and techniques that are well rounded, and effective at dealing with anxiety. The stories, examples, and exercises are great. I found the book very humorous as well, which we all need. I hope there are more books to come.

This book works
I have learned more from this guy (Mark Freeman) than 90% of the OCD practitioners I've been to. The book, and his videos on YouTube, are packed with more wisdom and pro-active steps to deal with the 'stuff that's in your head', than a one hour a week hit or miss OCD 'doctor' might be able to help you with. Highly recommended!

As many people that deal with major anxiety like me, I've read a LOT about it and did therapy also, but this book is different. Mark delivers REAL tools to use. I strongly recommend it !

This is truly an amazing book and (for those wondering) actually supplements the already incredibly useful video material perfectly, rather than just duplicating it. A few weeks back, I was in a really bad place, drowning under self harm thoughts (first time ever), depression etc - all, it would appear, at the end of one of those long anxiety roads where you have been "coping" for a long time before finally going under from the growing anxiety monsters that you have been feeding. It wasn't until I encountered Mar's material that I realised that those monsters had taken over every single waking mental minute (although those who know me would never have guessed). Quite a realisation. Mark's videos and this book are quite literally giving me my life back, and are also helping me work out how I would like to live that life, with the anxiety monsters along for the ride, if necessary, whilst I get on with identifying the values that I would live by - I'd lost sight of any life goals and values as a result of the effort of "just" trying to avoid anxiety. I have seen so much material on mental health that offers supposed ways forward, but which has never delivered for me, at least. This does. Thank you so much for this book......

WARNING: No magic pills inside, but honest straight-to-the-point guide on what it really takes to overcome mental illness.
I've been following Mark's youtube channel for a half a year now and when it comes to overcoming Obsessive Compulsive Disorder his stuff is the best out there, period.Mark's goal is not to monetize on OCD, but to really help. It's kinda volunteer work for community for him.He is the guy who doesn’t just help other people to overcome their mental problems as a coach, but the guy who overcame his own severe mental illness and who speaks from his very rich and hardcore first-hand experience. In this book Mark distilled all his wisdom, tactics and tricks which allowed him to overcome mental illness for good. He doesn't hold back - It's all there. If your goal is to overcome your mental illness such as OCD and you understand that it will take some real work, uncomfortable experiences and time to get over it, then do your brain a favour and grab this book now.

Fantastic book to change your behaviour to live a valued life
Having OCD for a couple of years now, Mark Freeman has helped me on my road to recovery with it. I first came across Mark on YouTube and I am so glad I did otherwise I think I would be in a very unhappy place still. I have read a lot of self help books about OCD but most of them focus on CBT skills however I believe ACT therapy is very effective for OCD. I also recommend this book for anyone wanting to improve their life based on values and goals regardless of their mental health and fitness status. Thank you Mark for helping me to embrace uncertainty and engage healthy actions according to my values!

Great book for better mental fitness
A great book for building better mental health. Mark combines his knowledge, personal experiences and sense of humour in this extremely useful and practical guide featuring many constructive exercises. The fact that Mark has overcome many mental challenges himself is also a very inspiring factor.
