Where is this gauge manufactured?

The gauge is made in CHINA not the US. IRWIN prints "Huntersville, NC " in bold text on the package, but in small, skinny text it says "Made in China to IRWIN specifications". On the gauge itself it says "Huntersville, NC" with no country of origin marking... in what appears to be an attempt to pass off their outsourced, Chinese gauge as an American product. Had I known the actual country of origin, I would have bought a Huot. Amazon really should be addressing the country of origin themselves.

Is the lettering really etched in as described, or printed on with white paint?

Is this suitable for sizing a wooden dowel?

It doesn't have a cutting edge on the holes, so if you want to try sizing, you'll need to only be having off a small amount. Of course, there are a bunch of holes in 1/16" increments.
