Fuet (Catalonian Brand Sausage)

I've been to Spain multiple times and Fuet is by far my favorite snack while I'm over there. In Spanish grocery stores, it's not uncommon to find a full link of Fuet for $3-4 a link. However, it's almost impossible to find in the US, and even less common to find it at a reasonable price. When I purchased this Fuet, it came out to about $8 per link. Double the cost it is in Spain, but reasonable, all things considered. So far, my family and I have consumed 2 links and we all came to the same conclusion after the first link: this Fuet is very very tasty, but something is missing. We all felt this Fuet was missing it's characteristic "funk", most likely due to the lack of the usual white mold on the outside of it. The sausage itself still had a very nice fatty, garlicy flavor, but it wasn't too dissimilar from a run of the mill dried salami. HOWEVER, we left the second link in a partially opened bag in the fridge for 1 week and noted it dried out a bit, looked a little whiter on the outside, and tasted significantly better. It's very possible that the mold is present, but was wiped off prior to packaging and shipping. Impossible to say for certain. Now, this is not a recommendation to leave your unwrapped Fuet in the fridge for a week (as I can't guarantee that you won't get sick from trying what we did). This is just what we noted, and we felt it tasted significantly more like the Fuet we remembered after the week of drying out in the fridge.

I was excited to try this Fuet sausage but was deeply disappointed by it. The taste and consistency is not even close to the real thing. Actually, tasted so bad that I had to spit it out. There is no refund or return available for this product. Again, don’t buy it, it was gross.

It taste absolutely fabulous. However, there are lots of chewy pieces that you can’t eat other than that I love it.

Pretty tasty version of Fuet. Not as good as what I had in Spain but good enough to have over here. Pairs so well with Rioja wine

My wife is from Catalonia and she really likes this fuet. She says it isn't quite the same as what you would get in Spain but is close enough.
