When this book arrived I was like Yeah! Then as I went through it I was like WTF? Where are the Js??? (My name starts with J, and there are 4 more in my family.) And where are the W's? And some X,Y, Zs? So proceeded to the Wikipedia where I learned that prior to a few hundred years ago I and J were both represented by I. And W was two Vs. And most of these alphabets are older than that. Now I am all educated but it still means most of the alphabets in this book are sadly lacking for me and most of the designs can't just be modified from I to J. Still nice to look at and I will find a way to use for quotes or something.

This one has 123 pages of absolutely wonderful initials, many full alphabets and a huge variety of decorated capitals. All in black and white but such a rich and useful range for any calligrapher need inspiration for projects. It’s not expensive but like so many Dover Publications, absolutely fabulous.
