This cutter works well for most potatoes, but very large ones need to be cut down to fit. You need to make sure the potato is smaller than the cutter blades. Even so, it still takes some strength to cut using the small size, since it has more blades. A 2nd class lever is incorporated to give you a mechanical advantage and reduce the load when pulling, if you pull on the very end of the handle. The suction cup does not hold it very well, but I think it is acceptable if you dampen the inside slightly before applying to help form a better seal. This device also works well for small roasted potatoes by only pushing through an inch at a time before using a knife to cut them into squares. It is a big time saver when cutting a large quantity of potatoes, but small numbers take longer because you have to take the blades out to clean them and the entire device. Use a vacuum sealer or ziplock bags to do batches that can also be frozen. It is sturdy and most of it is metal, which is important when considering the force generated when forcing the potatoes through the blades.

The first thing I did when this item was delivered was to test the suction cup, since this seemed to be the most common complaint. It wouldn't stick. But then I checked the counter and the bottom of the cup, and felt some debris that I couldn't see. Once I cleaned both surfaces, the suction was fine. It's very fussy, and absolutely won't stick to anything that isn't perfectly smooth.Aside from that, my first chop was perfect (California long white potato), offering little resistance. The pieces are a perfect size for my air fryer. At this point, I'm very satisfied.

The unit worked fine but you had to experience some trial and error to get it right. Example: make sure your potato does not touch the edges because it will get stuck. Keep the hardware secure so it' is a structurally solid as designed. The suction plate is useless, the ones with four cups should be far superior. I had to find ways to hold the unit so it would cut vs. slide. Good blades, and hardware including stainless steel. I'm sure that I could have found ways to adapt to use this better but I returned it and paid double for a different unit.

It does great for potatoes. Really well. The suction cup wasn't working very well. Cleaned the counter and the suction cup, but it didn't hold very well. Also difficult to get anything under it to collect the cut pieces. The product description when i bought it said that it was good for other vegetables as well. This was not correct. It did not do well with bell peppers and onions. Took longer to clean the resulting mess that it would have to have just used a knife instead.But it does work well for potatoes.

I love this cutter. I’m convinced the bad reviews are because it’s not being used correctly. The suction piece DOES work if you press it down on the counter and then pull down the silver tab to lock it in. Hard, REGULAR (not sweet) potatoes will easily push through the grate, without breaking the handle or putting all your weight on it, IF IT’S DONE CORRECTLY. At first, I couldn’t get the potatoes through unless I boiled them first because I was pushing the handle down with just one stride. That’s wrong. You must give the handle several abrupt swift pushes, and by the third or fourth quick bump, the entire potato goes right through. It’s so easy and fast now. Literally takes 5 seconds per potato. Also, it fits long potatoes, as well as short, so you never have to cut them. It’s light weight, small and easy to clean. Very sharp blades. Comes with two different size blades. Very cheap compared to the commercial grade ones, which are large and bulky. This one does the job well. I highly recommend it.

The suction is really bad and the reason it’s really bad is because there is only one suction cup in the back. With the amount of force you need to use to cut these french fries you definitely need to have at least two suction cups. Had they had two suction cups it probably would’ve been easier to manage this machine. Unfortunately, there is also another issue. If your potato is firm and fresh this machine will give you a hard time cutting that potato. It’s sort of like being in an arm wrestling competition with most of these potatoes I was cutting. I lost most of those battles and I am very strong. Plus, a little piece of metal came off of the blade. For these reasons I returned this machine and I purchased the industrial/professional grade machine. Simply because it is better. Better suction and the blades are sharper.My family is HCLFPB (High carb. Low fat. Plant-based) and potatoes/rice/beans/legumes and veggies are our Staples. We eat very clean and very healthy. So for us, even though it was more spendy and bigger We opted to return this particular machine and get the industrial sized one.

I got this today and immediately used it to cut 5 pounds of potatoes into french fries. I'm a little disappointed in the size of the cutting plates, it would have been nice to have a bigger difference in the size but I am very happy (so far anyway) with the cutting action. The suction cup really made a difference in how easy it was to use. I'm glad I went ahead and got the one with the longer handle, I think it made a big difference in how well it worked. It made short work of cutting the french fries, now if I could just peel the potatoes so easily!
