St. Maria Goretti: In Garments All Red

Good book for middle schoolers.

Thank you for this most inspiring book, St. Maria Goretti is an example of how God has called each of us to be His instruments of love and to be devoted every day to the prompting of the Holy Spirit.

This beautiful little biography of St. Maria Goretti is simply and beautifully told and appropriate for children 8 and up. It has pictures of the place she lived and died. It also has several prayers. Highly recommended for our youth.

I was very happy to find this book, which contains good detail about the life of St. Maria Goretti. The young girl lived for only eleven years, but the author was able to find enough material to lay out the inspiring story. Thank you!

This is a great story to read it is about a young girl who was killed in order to protect herself and her virginity from being taken away by force . Her life story serves as a lesson to young people

My closest friend asked me if I'd ever heard of St. Maria Goretti since my friend had seen a dramatization of the young saint's life on TV. I was familiar with the story and was sure there had to be written material about her life and death. As soon as I found this book in an Amazon.com list, I bought it for my friend and had it shipped to her. She was pleased with both the book and the speed with which it arrived.

This is an excellent book. To be perfectly honest, my daughter and I are in the habit of reading spiritual books together before she goes to bed. She's a teenager now and we still maintain this habit. After reading some deeper and spiritually complex books like "The Imitation of Christ" and Catherine Emmerich's book on the Passion of Christ, we found the story style of this book engaging. We are not through reading it yet, but she is definitely gaining some valuable spiritual insight.

I have not yet read the book, but I wanted to get some information on this saint in a format that would be easy to read and absorb. I am very pleased that I could find a book such as this for my library. This young saint is an example for all to follow because of her courage and strong faith.

This book, covering the life of a wonderful young Saint, can easily be read in a day and is very well written and easy to read. The book contains a picture of Maria on the first page as well as on the cover of the book. There are quite a few photographs included of the farm in Ferriere where Maria lived, the location of where she was attacked as well as the hospital room where she died. This room has since been converted into a chapel. There are also some photographs of her Canonization in 1950 and some of these show her mother who was present and also some photographs showing the wax figure containing St. Maria Goretti's relics. There is also the Canonization Homily that was given by Pope Pius XII and a Novena to St. Maria Goretti.When I was reading this book I thought in many ways it was a very sad story. The Goretti family who lived on their family farm in a mountain region, located in Corinaldo, which had pure air but harsh winters. They chose to leave this farm due to their extreme poverty and headed South for a better life. They undertook an arduous journey and after a chance meeting in Rome they finally ended up at a farm in Ferriere, which they rented. This farm was located in the swampland where the climate was damp. Maria's father had to work himself so hard on the new farm to make ends meat for his family as well as repairing the buildings. Then he was forced through over work and illness to share his new farm with two helpers, a father (Giovanni) and his son (Alessandro), to allow the crops to be harvested in time and allow the farm to succeed. He then died shortly afterwards leaving the helpers effectively in charge of the farm.The Goretti's were then in a situation they did not like but continued to work hard on the farm to survive. Maria was threatened a number of times by Alessandro until one fateful day when he attacked her. After Maria died her mother returned to Corinaldo with her children. It is clear from reading this story that St. Maria Goretti is a model of purity for the youth of today and the future.
