... was a little nervous but my garage turned out great. Love the look
So I read all the reviews and was a little nervous but my garage turned out great. Love the look. Here is what I did....First off, I bought this house in foreclosure. The garage had been sealed before with just a standard concrete sealer, and there were hello kitty stickers, melted electrical tape, and who knows what else on the garage floor. I read people's complaints and read the instructions. When you paint with any paint and specifically this one you HAVE to make sure the surface is prepped. Once you lay paint down there isn't going back (at least without a lot of headaches and buffing. So I power washed the floor and used a little 5 in 1 scrapper tools to scrap all the misc crap off my floor. Then I rented a buffer machine from home depot rental, grabbed the most abrasive pad they had and buffed my floor, twice. Power washed again and I let the floor set a full 24 hours to dry. Was probably dry sooner but I wasn't taking any chances.Painting time! I did exactly as the box said. Mixed the 2 part epoxy for 3 minutes, let it set for 30 min then came back and stirred for another minute. When its time to start painting I recommend 2 people. Can be done with one but 2 is easy. I cut in, let my wife roll (make sure you roll like they tell you in the instructional video, it works!), and then I came behind her and sprinkled flakes. This worked really well in my opinion, I could cut in faster than she could roll, so it gave me time to sneak behind here and spread the flakes.Couple of quick notes. I used 3.5 shakers of flakes for a regular 2 car garage. I went a little heavy but I love the flakes. I heard some people saying blow them out of your hand, didn't really think that was necessary. Granted I'm 6'4" but I just reached out and shook them right out of the can, really easy.Coverage: So many people say coverage was WAY off no way etc. I actually had extra. Bought 2 cans for a 2 car garage and it was more than enough.Mismatch colors: Tons of people said from can to can the colors may not match. Here is what I did. There is a clear break in the middle of my garage (for expansion), so in case they didn't match I used one can for one side and one for the other. That way it would look normal if they didn't match. Well they matched perfectly and no problems.I let this sit for a full 72 hours before I used the clear top coat. Wasn't necessary but again I didn't want to do it again.I will continue this review on the clear top coat page.

Beautiful floor, dry basement.
Love, love, love this product.Applied this to my 100 year old dog-piss and time-stained basement. (not my dogs, btw, previous owners.) The first two gallons did the first phase of my project, the back corners. Per package instructions, I etched with the acid solution provided. My advice is to use it all. I also mixed it a little more concentrated than the package endorsed. I used a bristle brush at the end of a wooden handle. Went down easy, no respiratory problems. If you see a 'tarry' area, you might have puddled some. Squeegee or clean that up prior to the next step. I let it air dry overnight, then put down fans in the morning just in case. Later in the day, I mixed the epoxy, again per package insert. I prefer a heavy nap roller, and got it done using a "W" pattern from the paint pan to start point, then evening it up as I returned back to the pain.*BIG POINT HERE* If you use the speckles, don't do it like a pepper shaker. Pour some in your hand, and BLOW it out over the paint. Start with smaller handfuls at first until you get the hang of it. You won't get any 'patterning' that way. Finally, the more humid and the worse the air flow, the longer it will take. Mine was tacky for two days, but was walkable. I didn't put any items on it for a few more. I put down a single run of soapy water to test it, and it looks bulletproof.I used the additional gallons in similar fashion as I worked my way across the floor. Its ok to overlap the etching agent on your new paint as you feather each section in. The tone looks a little off at first, but matches up to perfection as it dries. And NO MORE DOG URINE SMELL!! Good luck on your project.

Very Disappointed
My friend had did his garage with this product and it looked great. I was excited about doing mine and wanted to make sure I followed directions to a T. I watched the instructional video on You-Tube and read the directions thoroughly to make sure application ran smoothly. I don't know if I received some really old paint from Amazon, but it hardened on me in less than an hour and turned from liquid into a concrete mixture. I was only able to apply half of the first kit before it started to turn. I mixed the second kit and started to apply. Again, this kit started to turn almost immediately and was a completely different shade than the first. Because of the shortage now of paint, I had to go to Lowe's to purchase another kit. This kit was fresher and didn't harden as quickly, however, it was a different shade as well. Now I have a two car garage with three different shades of Tan. Not a happy consumer! I wasted a lot of time and money on this.

Not for DIY
I had problems with this material. I followed directions to the letter. Although I have over 20 years of experience in automotive and industrial coatings, I would have to chock up some of the failings as lack of experience, however, some of the issues come from a product that is very unforgiving. There is not enough pigment in the base coat and as a result, the material is translucent. If you overlap, and that is a given, you will see lap marks that you cannot detect until it has cured. I wish I would have paid more and bought the garage tiles instead and I wouldn't have had to go through all the grief I did. With the tiles, you could do areas at a time without removing everything from the garage and leaving it in the driveway for a week. If you do decide to epoxy, I highly suggest you hire a pro.
