Thin is in
I have owned four or five digital cameras, going back to about 1999. Over the years, I have seen these cameras evolve, becoming more powerful, with more capacity and features, and at increasingly lower prices. I have a perfectly good Canon Powershot SX 150 and it takes fantastic pictures, although it is a bigger camera than this one. But like all people who are looking to find even more features at a better price-point, and also looking for a very thin, pocket size camera, after doing lots of online research, I settled on this Nikon.First of all, it is small. It is thin and it has many features that I will not go into, as they are readily available in the product description. Suffice it to say that I am impressed by this camera. The photos are crisp, the menus are intuitive, and making adjustments are straightforward. I will not be using the Wi-fi or video features, but would expect them to work very well indeed, based on the photos. The zoom. while not exactly earth-shaking is more than adequate for the amateur or serious amateur. If you ant more than 8X and are a serious camera enthusiast, get one of the $1K+ big boys. The EN-EL 19 battery is wafer thin, and takes a while to charge, but holds the charge quite well. I will probably get a backup battery and charger for trips. The camera took a 16GB SDHC class 10 card without a glitch. I am sure it will provide all the capacity I will need. One last thing, The instructions that come with the camera are pretty basic. But, as is becoming standard practice, you can go to the Nikon website and download the BIG instruction manual.1-22-2016: I have now had this camera for about 9 months. I recently took on a trip to Hawaii and took around 500 photos at the highest resolution. Also took about 16 minutes of videos. The SDHC micro card easily handled all this information. My experience is that you can get about 300-350 photos on a single charge. Beforehand, I bought a spare battery and charger to take along. It paid off, as there was one time I had run out of juice, and changing over to the new battery took about 30 seconds. All in all, this is a fine camera. It does, as you may suspect, have limitations compared to other more expensive cameras -- wish the optical zoom was higher, but I do like the thinness of the camera. It fit easily into a small side cargo pocket on my shorts, and there was really no bulge at all. It's a keeper.

The camera takes horrible photos. It seems to have a lot of sensor spots on it. You can't tell at first but they're consistently in the same spots. I paid way too much for the performance of this camera that was sold as "like new". NOT like new. It's in great shape cosmetically but it's very worn on the sensor. It doesn't have a quick shutter like a Nikon should. Too much shake. I do not like it. I'd return it if I still ahd the original packaging. As you can see from the test shot, there is a very dark sensor spot on the left bottom corner and a series of sensor spots on the top right area of the frame. You can't see it on darker shots but this one conveys the problem very well.

Nice Camera, Great Deal!!!
My older model Coolpix finally quit working so I started reading about some others and decided to try the S3700. So far, so good, I like it! A little more simple to work than my older one and has a nice clear image. I like to make images for a photo book and my printer makes nice images on 4X6 photo paper so I can put them in my book. I noticed a popular competitor had the camera, minus the accessories, for the entire package mentioned here, so this is a great purchase price!

This was purchased as a back-up camera, and as such it does fine. My smart phone takes better pictures and my big Nikon takes Much better pictures, but it does a good job as a spare and is small enough to keep in the glove box or the side pocket of a purse.

I recommend this camera, it took beautiful pictures and was easy to use.
I purchased this camera after looking at many other options for a trip to Colorado. I found the camera to be easy to use which is what I wanted. It took beautiful pictures and the zoom made the mountains details pop. Also taking pictures while in a moving vehicle since you can't stop all the time on mountain road passes came out as if I was standing still. The only thing I would say was a con for me and it may be able to be changed but I wasn't able to figure it out was the amount of time after not taking a picture it would go into a standby like mode to save the battery and when you wanted to take a picture it wasn't ready. It would do this after one minute of not using and seemed to take at least thirty seconds to get it to be ready to shoot again, so I missed some photos I would have liked to take. After awhile I started turning it off and on because that seemed faster. I would definitely recommend this camera though. It is a good brand and although it is small like any other digital camera these days it doesn't feel like a cheap plastic, that I found a lot of other cameras did.
