One of the best fighting games on Vita
The Good: Great visuals, plenty of modes and characters, obtains all the greatness from the console versions, added touch fight mode is funThe Bad: Some modes were cut, still suffers from the same issues as the console versionsI’m going to talk about the PS Vita differences and how it holds up on the system, but the review for the original Dead or Alive 5 on PS3 is below. The PS Vita version is fantastic and feels like an excellent port. The game runs smoothly with the same great animations and good looking textures. Nothing really seems to have been cut, but stuff has been added. For one there is new training modes to practice combos and various other challenges. The biggest addition is the new Touch Fight Mode where you see through the eyes of your character and can touch and flick to fight. This is the promote DoA’s famous breast physics and you can also change how bouncy the breasts are.In addition to all this, you can use cross-save features and play online with other PS3 owners. While the content wasn’t cut, modes were such as not being able to upload matches to YouTube, lobby matches and tag team is solo play only. Despite those taken out the game is solid and works well on the Vita’s limited controls. I have to say this is one of the best fighting games available on the system and any fighting or DoA fan should own this.Dead or Alive is one of the longest running fighting games dating back to the PS1 era. It is also one of the fighting games that probably adds the least amount of features or changes through each sequel. DoA 5 doesn’t really add much, so fans of DoA 4 will be a little disappointed here. The fighting system is nearly unchanged, and all you will notice from the beginning is a new story and a graphical upgrade. The game looks pretty good, and there’s a long 65 mission story, but is it worth the $60 purchase if you are just happy with DoA Dimensions or DoA 4?The only new additions to the fight system are the Cliffhangers and Critical System. Both are underwhelming and just add to the already complicated fight system. However, it is more enjoyable to button mash than other fight games that rely on things like jump canceling, jump this, cancel that etc. DoA is based around a triangle fight system that is based on holds and counter attacks. This means you have to be quick and read your opponents moves, most fighting games aren’t like that. This is also a problem because predicting moves is very hard in this game, and having counters and holds for high, low, and mid strikes is just ridiculous and creates a very high learning curve that will turn most new players away. The Critical System allows you to do extra damage when the word pops up on screen, when it turns red you can do even more damage, but the timing for this is a serious pain. You spend more time trying to read and predict all this stuff then just button mashing which is a lot more fun. Some fighting games are more fun when learning the moves and the fight system (Mortal Kombat, Marvel vs Capcom), but Dead or Alive isn’t. You have to focus less on the fight and more on the animations and things that pop up on screen. I spent hours trying to learn all this, but in the end just resorted back to button mashing which I felt more confident in.Cliffhangers are cinematic events in which you Power Blow (a super powerful charged attack) into a certain Danger Zone and a quick time event comes up. This was fun, but it is hard to figure out the special Danger Zone in most stages, and leads right back to that issue where you are distracted from the actual fight. DoA 5 just adds too many distractions, but for people who don’t mind (probably hardcore fans) then you may like these new ideas. Despite all of this the fight system is very fun and fluid and is all martial arts with no fancy fireballs or magic attacks.dead-or-alive-5-plus-copyThe story mode is back and is pretty well developed, but is confusing for new comers. You had to have played past story modes because they pick up after each other. Kasumi is just trying to stop Alpha 152 again and the Mugen Tenshin clan (Ayane, Ryu Hayabusa and Hayate) are after her. In the mean time Zack is trying to recruit people for Dead or Alive 5, and most people will find the story mostly uninteresting. It is better than most fighting game’s stories though. The graphics look great and pretty much push the consoles to their limits. There’s a new dirt and sweat feature added to characters, but you can only guess why. Dead or Alive is 70% female fighters with large breasts that jiggle with every move in very little clothing. This isn’t a bad thing because most of the characters are well known and very well developed with unique personalities. One of the features in every Dead or Alive release, for me, are the new costumes I can unlock in the game because they are so well done and make the women look even more beautiful. The story mode also has bonus missions, but after half way through start becoming impossibly difficult. Dead or Alive isn’t really a combo type of game, but pulling off 7 and 10 hit combos can be a serious chore. Online modes are fun as always, but most players will get discouraged at the good long time fighters. This just proves that you must master the triangle system because once you get locked into a combo you’re stuck. Health bars deplete quickly in this game so fights can last only a minute or two.Overall, DoA 5 doesn’t bring much to the table to call this a true sequel, graphical upgrades, a new story, and just a couple of new additions to the fight system, but they hamper it down. There are also no new characters just a few cameos from Virtua Fighter. Plus, the stages are actually pretty boring. Construction site, a street, a Japanese house. Yawn. DoA 5 is solid and fun, but wait for a price drop.

Totally Worth it!
I have played this for PlayStation 3. Though I am not that good at these kind of games since I am more into the Role Playing Genre of Games. I totally recommend this for PlayStation Vita since taking it on the go as well as the controls are just as good in my opinion as the PlayStation 3's Controls. I Immediately got hooked on this game since its release on the PlayStation 3. It's easy to understand, easy to learn and get use to the controls for the PlayStation Vita Version as well as the PlayStation 3 Version. If your interested in the fighting/action style genre of Games, this is your kind of game and one of many reasons to own a PlayStation Vita. I'd also like to add I tried this "Dead or Alive 5 plus" as a free demo on the PlayStation Store on the PlayStation Network just recently today, this morning in fact and I totally gave it a 5 Star right then and there.

This isn't your typical fighting game.....
A great game, loads of fighters. This isn't a button masher. You have to play smart, otherwise get beat up. I like the Dead or alive series for it's technical side. You can deliver high, mid and low attacks, as well as high, mid, and low counter attacks. Also throws too! The graphics are awesome. The backgrounds moves, there are stages where it's three levels, fire, smoke, snow....an amazing game. Fighters skin and clothes get dirty. Tons of replay value too. Also, female fighters have realistic......"movements" too. Get ready to get blisters executing combos and trying to block, for this will take a while to beat!

ruined the dead or alive series
..... You have to BUY extra costumes!!!???? DLC has ruined videogames...... No you can't play through the game to UNLOCK them you have to purchase them..... So furious I will never buy another tecmo game again. Ever. instead of being in an arcade style room for online its, sit and wait for someone to join one at a time... They should have never fired the head of team ninja, they haven't made a good game sence.

Fantastic port!
You've got to love Team Ninja! It seems they always squeeze more performance out of a system (graphically) than "the other guys" can. No, this port of DOA 5 doesn't look as good as the console versions, but it's SO close! And on a handheld? Other developers need to take lessons from these guys on how to make a pretty fighter on the Vita (looking at you, Netherrealm Studios). The five star rating is for the quality of the port in relation to the console original, not the game itself. If you like DOA 5 on the consoles, you WILL like it on the Vita.

A+ Fighting Game
The first time I played this game, I immediately noticed the game draws influence or similarity from Tekken, Mortal Kombat, and Street Fighter. This game is part of a fighting series that's notable for almost all female fighters with very unique set of moves, unseen in other fighting game series. I'd like to visit the earlier games since I'm satisfied with this game. Check this game out if you are into fighting games.

A great buy for fans and game-starved Vita owners
I recently acquired a PS Vita and was eager to add something memorable to my collection. I am a longterm DoA fan and could not find this anywhere else. after playing the PS3 version, I was excited to get more replay out of it. This version looks great and feels great. The touch battle mode is fun and cross-save was a welcome feature. I wish they could have done something with Ultimate, but this is still a great buy.

Very fun game, I am a big fan of fighters ...
Very fun game, I am a big fan of fighters and this one does not disappoint. It is a port of the original DOA 5 and is a lot of fun. One thing though, I had to do an update as the game crashed on load up a couple of times, and then still crashed afterward from time to time on load up but once I updated my PS Vita to the latest software it stopped crashing completely.
