Trad Jazz for Tenor Banjo

OK for tabs, but no chord solos :(
Pros: nicely printed book, tabs for melody and chord charts are helpfulCons: No chord solos (tab for melody only), CD is pretty worthlessThis book is nicely made and has over 30 tenor banjo songs from the early jazz era. Some great songs like St Louis Blues. This is one of the few tenor banjo books with tablature and that is why I am giving it 4 stars. Unfortunately, the tabs are not chord solos as I was hoping, only tab for the melody, but they do show the accompanying chords. If you are clever you can work up your own chord solo arrangements, but more sophisticate chord solo arrangements would have been better. The CD is not very helpful. Just sounds like a recording of a digital tone, not someone playing the songs on a tenor banjo.Final comment: I sure wish someone would make a book with tabs of intermediate to advanced arrangements of these songs with a real CD of someone playing the arrangements in the tab

Good source for old Tenor banjo jazz and swing favorites.
If you're into 4-string banjo, you might get this book and learn some of the old-time songs with it. The tab is easy to read and the songs selected are great. I used it quite a bit while I was learning to get around on the Tenor. This is NOT for the 5-string Bluegrass banjo.

Simplistic, might be good for beginners
This book is intended for a beginning musician and not someone with any experience playing a stringed (or other) instrument. The chord voicings only use a couple basic shapes, so you if you understand how to move shapes around, you won't pick up too many ideas. Indeed, the voicings are not really authentic for what you'd hear on trad jazz recordings. Many of the keys have been changed to make it more simple (utilizing C, G, F, Bb), but they are likely to not be the key used in most recordings.

Old standards that anyone with intermediate skills will enjoy.
Really a nice collection of songs, most of which I am very familiar with, which makes learning to play them a lot more fun. I don’t play tenor banjo, but instead Tenor guitar in the same tuning. I am really enjoying this book, and have no negatives to address.

This is a decent book with a good repertoire of tenor banjo jazz standards
This is a decent book with a good repertoire of tenor banjo jazz standards. However, the CD it comes with is worthless. They just fed the notes through a computer for a piano to play. I would encourage any great tenor banjo player out there to start a youtube channel and play through this book. There is such a paucity of resources out there for the Tenor banjo already. We should not let this book go to waste.

Well worth the price
I play tenor guitar and this is the first book makes playing really easy and fun. The cd is a waste of time. The only knock maybe that the songs are to easy.

Good beginner resource
Great for beginners who know the basic barre chords as well as the 'open' chords.

Very basic arrangements
Ok but the choral arrangements are very basic and need embellishment to get the best out of them.
