Just WOW
One kick ass read. This one starts with Captain Lee Hardin. A Hardin who's still recovering from wounds especially the head wound Ramirez gave him. A Ramirez who took his bunker GPS and gave it to Major Abe Darabie. An Abe Hardin thought was a friend and someone he could depend on.Unknown to Hardin Darabie took control of the GPS before Briggs could send someone to kill Hardin and take it.Major Darabie isn't loyal to Briggs, a man who named himself as POTUS. By taking the GPS he removed any reason Briggs had to kill Hardin. Now all Abe has to do is get it back to Hardin and explain what he did and why. Captain Lucas Wright a close friend is on board and the two of them head for Camp Ryder.Hardin suffers from debilitating headaches and his side and ankle aren't healed either. Hardin is also plagued with self doubt. He's wondering if he's doing things the right way. His doubts are eating at him constantly.Hardin is doing his best to do what he was tasked with doing but it ain't easy especially since the new POTUS Briggs has thrown the whole eastern seaboard to the walkers along with those who were chosen as Hometown agents.Nothing is easy even with help from Captain Tomlin who's a man like Hardin. A man in the same program as Hardin.Hardin also has his dog Deuce who can sense the walkers before any human ever would. He gives them a fighting chance to stay alive.Without his bunker GPS Hardin can't get into the bunker. A bunker thats loaded with military hardware, guns, ammo, food and medical supplies. Supplies that would make Hardins job so much easier.Hardin sent teams out to blow the bridges so the dead couldn't cross the water and get into the area. The dead who number in the millions. Blowing those bridges would remove the threat of being overrun by the dead.LaRouche was the leader and he knew exactly how important it was to blow those bridges. But LaRouche murdered Father Jim and ran. He ran right in to the Followers. A group of religious idiots who are trying to take over the Eastern part of the country seeing this as God's work.Wilson and the others on LaRouche's team are doing they're best to blow the bridges but its hard and everything has to be done by hand, under the bridge itself. They are one step ahead of the walkers and losing ground.Harper and his crew have met up with some US Marines who were tasked to meet them and find out whats going on and how serious it is.Harper is incensed that they didn't bring explosives and don't seem to know just how bad the situtation is. He's really pissed that these marines can't help blow the bridges.Captain Tomlin is tasked by Hardin to head for Ft. Bragg in search of allies. Allies that they will need. Tomlin hopes he doesn't get shot on sight and he's wondering just who holds Bragg.Bragg is the headquarters of the 82nd Airborne and the home of Special Operations Command. These are guys Hardin knows will be able to help if he can only contact and convince them.Abe and Lucas are captured on the way to Camp Ryder with Hardin's GPS. Who captured them he doesn't know anymore than he knows just where the hell they are.Abe endured torture but he has no idea who his torturer is or what he really wants or how much he can tell him. Are they loyal to Briggs? He's also worried sick about Lucas. So begins another kick ass read by Molles. This one has Hardin, Tomlin, Abe, Angela, Abby, Sam, the Followers, LaRouche, a girl named Claire, Deacon Chalmers, Clyde, a meeting between Col Staley from Camp Lejeune and Hardin, the dead, the hunters, betrayal, a group of thirty two needing a safe place, Jenny, an attack at Camp Ryder, Tomlin meeting an old friend at Bragg, a rescue, a BlackHawk and Lee Hardin finally seeing some light at the end of that very long tunnel. The next book is going to be awesome.Five Stars and one kick ass read.

What a great series!!
I've read a lot of books in the "end of the world" genre. Sometimes they deal with zombies, a virus, economic collapse, EMP waves, and one even had an microscopic organism eating all of the planet's oil. There sure are a lot of these books out there (just check Amazon). Some have some really cool book covers and the back of the book blurbs sound exciting...but there sure is a lot of trash out there that you have to sift through to get to the good stuff. "The Remaining" series by D.J. Molles is certainly one of the diamonds surrounded by a lot of coal. What makes this series stand out to me is it's ability to tell a good story...simplified. Some of the books that I've read in this particular genre get way too complicated: too many characters jumping around the globe, overloaded with military jargon, and leading characters that are unrealistic or just plain stupid. I think the big draw for an audience into stories like this is that we've got to be able to ask ourselves, "Man...if I were in that situation...what would I do?". When you read a chapter in the book and you put it down...and then you begin to contemplate the reality of the situation that you just read and how it could really be like that...then you've found a good story in this genre. This particular book is #5 in the series, so if your looking at this right now...then you are familiar with the storyline thus far. The story continues to follow Captain Lee Harden as he tries to complete his mission of helping society rebuild. Harden has a military background but Molles never lets that run the series. I like the fact that Harden is character who is smart and has a background with weapons and survival. He's a great principal character for the series who does what we want all our heroes to do...doing everything he can to help others. Yeah...there were some times when I was yelling out loud in book one when he lost his truck/supplies/ and his home base trying to save others...but Molles is a great writer. I had to keep reading to find out how Captain Lee Harden was going to get himself out of this one. In book 2, Harden tries to make peace with a gang of thugs and build a relationship between towns...and of course...things get crazy. The problems that Molles presents here in the series are very realistic and plausible. But the cool thing is that Molles also gives enough fiction to keep things interesting. Viral "zombies"....where are all the female infected?(book 3)...the creatures begin to "evolve"...etc. The fiction is given to the reader in small doses that begin to unravel like a mystery and this is what makes the books in this series hard to put down.I just got book 5 today and I'm already feverishly devouring it. Molles continues his great writing style and the way he builds the tension from one book to another is masterful. Fans of the series will not be disappointed because with what I've read so far we are all set for another great story here. Molles keeps things moving at a brisk pace and this has been staying true to the other books in the series. I also like the fact that this series is located around the area in which I live....Raleigh, North Carolina. The locations in the story are very familiar to me and having that in my mind when I read it is pretty cool. It's snowing here in North Carolina today, work was closed, and amazingly...UPS brought this to my doorstep this morning. What a great gift for a snow day! As I was having fun reading this and looking at the snow fall outside the window, I had to take a moment to praise this writer. I guess this is more of review about the series rather than a spoiler for the book. Fans...your going to get this anyway. For those of you checking around for the next best novel in this genre...look no further than this outstanding series by D.J. Molles!

Awesome book
I was on the edge of my seat from start to end. F**cken love this series. So well written and damn entertaining. A little depressing as the story seems to go from catastrophe to loss to twists and turmoil but still a book I couldn't put down.
