Vinland Saga 2

Absolutely stunning and engrossing; wonderful epic historical manga
This is the second omnibus in the Vinland Saga historical manga series. I continue to be blown away by the incredible artwork, wonderful characterization, and excellent story in this series.Askeladd and his band of warriors continue rampaging through England and end up in battle with London where they meet the rather viciously hilarious Thorkill. We also meet Prince Canute whom Askeladd decides to go on a mission and rescue in order to win the Danish King Sweyn’s favor. Whoever holds Prince Canute holds the keys to both the thrones of England and Denmark and Askeladd has large ambitions. We also get a lot more backstory on Thorfinn. We find out some of the things he had to do when he was younger to survive and how he lost his family. Thorfinn is a fantastic character that is hard not to love. The addition of Thorkill was awesome...he is so enthusiastically evil and such an awesome fighter. Prince Canute is another interesting addition to the story. There is a ton of war and action in this volume. We see a lot of the horrors of war (there is also quite a bit of swearing, rape, and dismemberment) so I would recommend for adult readers only. The illustration is amazingly detailed, even the backgrounds are very realistic. Character expression is very well done as well. There are a ton of characters in the story but I never have trouble telling them apart. The story is still epic in proportions. I continue to enjoy the historical summaries at the end of each chapter. This is just really a very high quality epic historical fantasy manga and is really unlike anything I have ever read before.Overall an absolutely fantastic epic historical manga. The illustration is fantastic, the characters are complex and interesting, and the story is fascinating. I strongly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys manga. Really it is incredibly well done.

Fantastic historical-fiction manga!!
Book arrived immaculate. Not a scratch on the hardcover, no ripped pages, and packaged relatively safe.As for the book itself, Vinland Saga is amazing. The lands of Scandinavia and England are beautifully drawn, and the realities of medieval Europe are harsh and brutal. There's even pieces of history from the time period thrown in to give backstory. I highly enjoyed the first volume, so I look forward to continuing this historical adventure.Five stars!!

Probably my most favorite of ALL TIME!!
First and foremost, it is the art in it that got me absolutely and madly hooked. Then, upon reading it I got sucked in by the story. And yes, there is violence and gore but it is never gratuitous because it serves the purpose of telling the story which by the way is pretty darn amazing. Mr. Makoto Yukimura is a sharp artist as well as an amazing story teller. Even my kids who aren't at all into history are loving this...The portrayal of the Vikings in this manga is real and raw and unforgiving but such is reality too...The story incorporating a fictional character into it makes it all the more interesting and wanting you to read more. I recommend this to those who love medieval times, Vikings and a good sound story without any trace of sci-fi or fantasy.

If you even slightly enjoy history and manga, this is for you.
As a fan of Nordic mythology/history and simultaneously a fan of manga this was right up my alley. The characters and their development is nothing short of amazing and combined with the breathtaking art this book is definitely worth your time. The incorporation of the old English slang and traditions acts as a cherry on top for the masterpiece of this manga. If you’re a fan of vagabond or any detailed-art oriented manga I cannot recommend this enough.10/10 (I’ve only gave 2 mangas this high of a score)

Blood and thunder
This is an amazing series to read. For those who are looking at this and some how haven't read the first volume then i guess there will need to be a bit of an explanation as to why this series is worth picking up. Vinland Saga is about a young man named Thorfin who follows a band of mercenaries in order to challenge the leader in one on one honorable battle, to avenge his father who was slain by the leader. It's a rather bloody and detailed manga that is comparable to the likes of Berserk. The battle's and fights are epic, and the story is enticing. I would go into more detail, but I don't want to spoil things, If you read the first volume and liked it, you will not be disappointed with this one.

Great Quality on Top of Excellent Story
No damage to the cover or pages inside. Hardcover is nice and smooth fitting nicely between other volumes. The story itself is amazing with plenty of fast-paced action excellently put on paper.

Love this manga
Got into this manga after seeing the anime, and the second volume is basically the second half of the 24 episode first season of the anime. After fleeing with the young prince and trying to get back to Denmark and the king, you begin to see all the threads of Askelads plan begin to come together only to come apart in the end. Looking forward to volume three. One thing that I really like about this collected volume is that all the books are in hardcover with this iteration of the releases. Would recommend only the hardcover versions due to durability of the books.

Amazing!
One of the best series I've ever read. While the first book is mostly a setup, in this one the main story of the prologue(yes, this is only the prologue) starts. Askeladd is an insanely well written character, and he is more of a protagonist of this arc than Thorfinn. Definietly buy even if the first book did not get you hooked, as this one definietly will.
