It provides clear and sharp images. I am satisfied.
This review is for Foscam 1080P G2 camera. I will also talk about some difference between G2 and G4 2K 4MP.Before going into the review, I would like to praise Foscam’s customer service and the representative Yiko. They are responsive and always get back to me within 12 hours. Yiko is very helpful, walks me through the details and solves some difficulties. My company is using Avigilon with some 4K cameras. For my personal use, I have chosen Blue Iris and got couple G4 and G2 cameras to cover my property perimeter. Before placing the order, I did some comparison online among 1080P Yi, Amcrest, Reolink cameras. Only G2 supports RTSP, ONVIF, FTP for sure. Although some reviews say other brands support RTSP and ONVIF, some reviews say they don’t and are not Blue Iris compliant. Since I use Blue Iris, getting G2 can give me peace of mind.AfterimageAt first, I noticed that occasionally G2 gave some afterimage. After playing a while, I found out that following methods could avoid that:1. Set Blue Iris to record direct-to disc (Camera Properties ->Record ->File format and compression...->Direct-to-disc).2. Reboot camera regularly. (I use smart plug to do hard reboot, but it can be achieved by using VMS or browser “Enable Periodic Maintenance”)3. Reboot your PC regularly. (I use Windows “Task Scheduler”)I also attached some photos to show my video setting that satisfies my requirement.VMS vs Web BrowserTo set up the camera, as some reviews points out, you have to download their proprietary plugin to use web browser. If you have hesitation, you may use their VMS instead. Once you have set them up, basically you don’t need it anymore. However, VMS and web browser don’t work exactly the same. If you need to enable Human Detection, you have to use web browser because VMS does not have such option box (I am using VMS vers 2.4.122, not sure if it’s bug). But since Blue Iris has its own motion detection method, it doesn’t use G2’s Human AI. I mention here for those who may use Cloud Storage or Micros SD card for local storage.Another thing is, with VMS you can manage all cameras within one interface while web browser can only access one camera. You have to open more than one browser to manage different cameras simultaneously. However, web browser is much faster than VMS.One more thing I would like to bring up is when working with Blue Iris, the camera resolution can only be set in Blue Iris. Even you change it in VMS. Blue Iris will change it back to the highest native resolution. It’s fine with G2. But there is some problem with G4 because Blue Iris does not have 1080p option for G4. Strange! However, if you only use native highest resolution, it doesn’t matter to you or you just use web browser to change resolution.Wireless strengthFor those cameras I could use network cables, I keep them wired. But I do have one G2 using WiFi. The camera WiFi is pretty strong. It connects to my ASUS DD-WRT firmware AC68U 30 feet away with a wall in between. I was not aware of any disconnection and it provides stable 1080p 25 fps videos. No internal speaker and micAs other reviews mention, user has to connect external speaker and mic. It could be a con. But I would see it as a pro. Because if I want to use the camera as an announcer, I can connect it to an amplifier and some better speakers. And I have an option to connect it to a better mic to pick up better sound quality. Some people may want to use the cameras for live monitoring. With speaker and mic, they can communicate with the objects. However, the video has delay. When using Blue Iris, G2 has about 15 sec delay while G4 has about 30 sec. If using VMS, it’s better. There are only about couple sec delay. But still it’s not ideal for live monitoring and communicating. So unless you need to record sound in your video, no internal speaker and mic may not a big deal.G2 vs G4G2 is 1080p 25 fps. G4 is 4M 2K 20 fps. When comparing the video quality, I don’t see any significant difference. So if you want to save a few bucks and have a bit smoother video (25 fps), G2 is a good choice. But if you really want 4M 2K regardless, then G4 is for you.Ver. 1 and Ver. 2You may notice G2 has two different front faces. One shows LEDs and the other doesn’t (but still has LEDs). They are Ver. 1 and Ver. 2. The features are the same. Just Ver. 1 is using transparent glass to cover the LEDs while Ver. 2 is using tinted glass. I didn’t compare side by side the LED effective range of two versions. Ver. 2 LEDs still can do the job. It doesn’t look like the tinted glass diminishes the infrared and personally I like Ver. 2 more.Overall performanceI have been using G2 cameras for 2 months and pretty satisfied with the quality. It provides sharp and clear images. During the hours of darkness, the built-in 30 infrared LEDs can illuminate up to 66 feet. But I feel that even in low light situation, the sensor can still pick up good video quality. So for one of my G2s covering the area under a street light, I don't’ use the LEDs at all. I set the IR LED mode to “Manual” and IR LED state to “Off”. I would like to have color video vs IR B/W images. After some storms in CA, the G2 (and G4) cameras are still working solid. I will update the review in the future if needed.

Can't believe it's survived this long
So I got this to use as a "nature cam" of sorts high up on my ham radio tower in 2021, it's been exposed to the Pennsylvania elements (hot summers; sub zero winters) every single day. One of the local TV stations also takes a feed from it to their weather system to show a timelapse every day on the news. I genuinely can't believe it's lasted this long

New Cams
Brought these for the house. The password is annoying. It's Special character and letters or numbers and letters... not all. The prompt for it is annoying as it does not explain this. Also, who the hell does the programmer think he is to make me have a password one way? It's my damn money and my system... Outside of zoomer levels of stupid programming for setup, they work great! Video is better night or day from the last ones I had (720p). Night vision has better detail. After you loosen everything they will point just about anywhere. I use a non-foscam NVR (QNap 9bay) that I use for many things. These are new enough to be prebuilt into the software. Foscams native ports are 554, 443, 88, and 888 (ringer) for those softwares. Bullets are 88, and 554 if I remember unless you change it.Foscam could go back to web interface so those of us who can, can actually custom setup our stuff without an annoying menu...! That would be great.

I HATE this camera--huge waste of time and money
Initially this camera was working fine, then about 2 hours after I set it up, it just stopped connecting correctly to my wireless. I've spend over 3 hours fighting with it including full reset and nothing works. It connects to the phone app somehow (no idea how it's possible) but it won't connect to anything else and it doesn't show up in my list of devices connected to my router. It remains in my list of wired connections even after I have unplugged the LAN. And of course the return window closed 2 days ago. I am beyond aggravated--I have purchased Foscam cameras several times because I like the features for the price, but they are always virtually impossible to get them working. This is the last straw, I will never buy another Foscam product again.

Decent Camera, Bad Support
I’ve been buying Foscam brand cameras for almost a decade, and their quality is decent for the price, but this is my last one from them mainly because their customer support has gone severely downhill. Be warned! If you’re proficient with setting up these types of cameras, sure, they are a good bang for the buck, but their app is outdated, firmware rarely gets updated and they are CONSTANTLY asking you to buy their cloud service. Their new main customer service person is also quite rude.It should also be noted that the max capacity on the micro sd cards are limited to 128GB if you want to be able to view your recorded video through their app. Most other companies have already updated their software and firmware so their devices can use 256 and 512GB cards. No clue why Foscam hasn’t done this yet.I’ll be slowly transitioning from Foscam to Amcrest over the next year.

Good Camera - Foscam support beware
I have had multiple foscam cameras over the last ten years. I got this G2 to replace one that finally quit working. The setup can get kinda technical if you want to go beyond what you can do with the Foscam phone app. I ftp video footage - no cloud. It's good you can still do that. My only complaint is I called support for the first time because I was getting a weird error message configuring email. The support technician said he wanted access. Fine. After watching him fumble around and try to upgrade my router's firmware (by watching him I could already tell he didn't have a clue), I booted him off before he could do any real damage (As an aside, I update router firmware late at night; too much on it during the day, including people working in technical fields at home). An hour or so later I got email alerts to work without support's help. The camera itself is fine. It sends me alerts when I want them. Picture quality is good. These cameras have gotten a lot smaller than they used to be and seem to be well made. Time will tell.

Works as expected but human detection is terrible
Purchased this cameras to limit the alerts on my old foscam cameras with the human detection feature! Sadly its terrible! I since uninstalled this camera and switched to google cameras with the software that works

Software doesn't work. Hardware just ok
I went with foscam because it was recommended by the smartthings community for compatibility. It won't login into any browser. (EI,Chrome,Opera,Firefox.)It kind of work in their Foscam VMS software BUT. when you add it the first time you need to change password. I copied the password and user from a word file. The next time I open the software I need to re-login again. I copy the user&password again and I get wrong user or password...After many try I factory reset using the push button. and the same issue happen every time I leave the software. This camera is just broken.I never had so much trouble with a camera. I installed many amcrest and Hikvision in the past. The video quality is ok but not great.

I returned it.
Shame because this camera feels solid in the hand. Build quality is good. All metal construction. The firmware/ web interface is severely lacking. With HTML 5 there should be no need to download sketchy plugins. Picture is ok but not great - my older model Foscam FI9803P that’s only 720 has a crisper looking image than this one. Plus there is this annoying slight pause in the video every few seconds. Especially noticeable when a car is going by. I returned it and will be the last Foscam I buy. Going to try a 4K Lorex with Color night vision. $199 at Costco.
