Roadside Geology of Yellowstone Country (Roadside Geology Series)

Great book if,
Yellowstone was open. Planned our entire trip with this book. It's not the typical roadside geology book in that those books are usually heavy with info on road cuts. This is more distant but still good.We got to Bozeman on a Sunday night. Headed to Red Lodge to enter park. Road just closed. Returned and tried to enter via Gardner, oops, back up. Headed to West Yellowstone and halfway there big sign YELLOWSTONE CLOSED. Yup, perfect timing. The white water rafters were having a ball down the creek. Headed back home to NC Tuesday. But I'm sure it's a great book. 🤣

Good read ... I actually learned a thing or two !
In particular, I liked all the detail in the descriptions, the charts, maps, and especially the glossary. I learned quite a bit from this book. I may, at some time in the future, travel to Yellowstone Country, I hope. Will reread the book before I go west.I have purchased another book of this series, and likely will hunt for others.I have collected rocks since I was a kid. Nice to know how they are created.

Excellent Companion book for a trip to Yellowstone
We took this book with us to Yellowstone Nat'l Park and it turned out to be a fabulous companion on the trip. We learned a lot of fascinating facts about Yellowstone and were able to seek out unusual geological features in the region, which we would not have known about if we didn't have this book with us. I would recommend this book to ANYONE headed to the Yellowstone region. It is a well organized book, organized by driving route, so you can reference as you drive to Cody, Gardiner, within the park, etc. When we saw something and didn't know what it was, we looked in the book and learned about the feature. EXCELLENT book!

Great book.
This is a well-written book that communicates the unique geology of the Yellowstone area without excessive jargon.

Enriching guide, get it for every area you visit
After a trip to Yellowstone in early September I needed to know more about this phenomenal area. This fulfilled every hope I had, making a thorough exploration for the amateur geologist and spurring my interest in the newly discovered domain of Archaea microorganisms that inhabit the thousands of thermal features. Because everything, including the rangers' talks was fresh on my mind, it meant so much more. Exciting, amazing, mind expanding!

good books
I've bought many of the Roadside Geology series through amazon, so this is going to be a boilerplate review. I bought the first book in the series when there was only one book, and enjoyed it immensely. The books are very readable, and many of the spots mentioned are worth a stop. A must have if you want to know what the rocks are without becoming a geologist.

Great for those interested in the details of geology in Yellowstone
I have purchased other Roadside Geology books in the past for road trips. I enjoy reading them while I look out the window so I actually know what I am looking at. This book is no different. I am in no way a geology goo-roo which is another reason I like these books. Even the Yellowstone book was pretty easy to read and understand. Due to the nature of the park, there is a lot of geoglogical information to be found at the ranger stations and at each of the sites but you will certainly get more out of this book.

This book gave me a decent foundation for the geology of Yellowstone but it was not as clearly written as I would have liked. I found myself a little overwhelmed with the terminology. However once I was in Yellowstone, it became clearer.
