A must read
Such an enjoyable and wonderful novel of a friendship that originates in the workplace and beyond. Brought back many memories too of days gone by. This, as well as Gracie's War, are hard to put down novels! Eagerly awaiting her next one.

Fans of Lyn Andrews and Donna Douglas will love Elaine Everest!
The gathering clouds of the Second World War are fast approaching, but nothing can deter Sarah Caselton from the excitement she’s feeling having just been taken on as a shop assistant by Woolworths! Away from her social-climbing mother’s stifling clutches, Sarah has moved to Erith in Devon and is loving living with her feisty but kind-hearted grandmother, Ruby. Sarah takes to her new job like a duck to water. She makes firm friends with two of her fellow shop assistants, the glamorous Maisie and timid Freda, wins the respect of her direct superior and soon catches the eye of good-looking assistant manager, Alan. All looks to be going well for Sarah, but will the country being at war end up costing her her new-found happiness?Stylish Maisie is the shop girl with a cheeky sense of humour and a flair for looking like a movie star. With an enviable wardrobe, a passion for life and an infectious laugh, Maisie’s job at Woolworths has not only provided her with two wonderful friends, but it also gets her out of the house and away from her poisonous mother in law. With her beloved husband away, Maisie sees this job as a much-needed distraction which stops her from pondering about the fate of her spouse. But the future is uncertain for everyone and Maisie cannot help but wonder whether she will ever see the man she loves ever again…Freda’s home life was not a happy one. After her mother had remarried, her evil stepfather had gone to great lengths to make the lives of Freda and her brother hell. Desperate to escape from her stepfather’s malign presence, Freda’s brother got mixed up with a bad crowd, and when he flees the family home, a determined Freda vows to find him and take him to safety. With only a letter postmarked Erith giving her any clues as to his whereabouts, Freda heads off with next to money in her pocket and no place to stay. Luckily for her, she soon finds a job at Woolworths and is quickly taken under Maisie and Sarah’s wing, but will she ever find her brother? Or is she too late to rescue him from harm? Will war claim everything which these three girls hold dear to their hearts? Is there light at the end of the tunnel? Or will happiness continue to elude them?A wonderful wartime saga that will touch your heart and keep you turning the pages late into the night, The Woolworths Girls is a fantastic historical tale packed with plenty of humour, pathos and charm that will keep you engrossed and entertained from beginning to end.Elaine Everest is a terrific storyteller who has penned an emotional, compelling and readable tale about courage, the ties that bind and the power of family and friendship that you will not be able to put down. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know all the characters in The Woolworths Girls and I couldn’t help but cheer them on to get the happiness they deserved. I adored intelligent Sarah, glamour puss Maisie and determined Freda and I couldn’t help but love the wonderful Ruby – she is definitely someone I would love to have in my corner! If you are looking for a first rate saga to curl up with and enjoy, then look no further than The Woolworths Girls!

Fascinating!
This is the first in a series set in England during WWII. I'm not normally a fan of these types of sagas but this one drew me in and I had to get the rest of the series to find out what happened next! Particularly interesting for those of us who remember "Woolies" in its heyday.

THE WOOLWORTHS GIRLS
More than excellent ! Many thanks to Mrs Elaine EVEREST who wrote this book as it may concern many, many employees who worked some years ago at Woolworth and Co LTD. This mark is more than deserved. Every employee may remember the happiness about working for this marvellous store.I was one of them, I am French and if Woolworth was to open again, I would be ever so proud to work for this wonderful store once again. The way the author describes the young lady's interview at Woolworth, reminded me of such strong and unforgettable lovely souvenirs.Woolworth gathered the most friendly employees, though we were all hardworking employees. We had such respect for customers and the store was so family friendly too.Christmas season was the time I really enjoyed working in this store,we and the customers were so joyful.
