DOVE Dark Chocolate Bars, 3.30-Ounce Bar (Pack of 12)

gave this in a gift basket for someone, they loved them.

This particular shipment of chocolate was terrible. CHocolate was chalky and discolored.

I received a box of 12 dark chocolate bars, each bar individually wrapped.Each bar weighs 3.30 ounces, consists of 3 servings (with each serving having 170 calories).Each serving is defined as being 1/3rd of a bar.These Dove Dark Chocolate have the familiar slightly bitter taste. It tastes fairly good and is a decent alternative to the typical milk chocolate that I often eat.These Dove bars look shiny. They feel smooth to my fingers.I broke apart a few pieces; as I bit into the bar, the chocolate was hard, crunchy.I like dark chocolate for its healthy content, such as:--- not processed with alkali (these Dove bars are processed with alkali, which means there's less amount of flavanols, and thus, less cacao amount)--- no added flavors (these Dove bars have artificial and natural flavors)--- low sugar content (these Dove bars have 14g added sugars, making up 28% of daily value of sugars that you should eat)--- high amount of cacao content (I can't find info on the Dove nutrition label)note: sugar is one of the first ingredients.Expiration date is found on the back of the bar. Mine expires Jan 2021.If I was eating dark chocolate as a fun snack, these Dove bars are a good choice.If I was eating dark chocolate for their health factor, I would choose another brand that has higher content of cacao, and lists that content.

My family is exactly split on chocolate. My own preference is for semi-sweet dark chocolate. My husband and daughter both like basic American style mass produced bars, and my son like gourmet chocolate with added ingredients like ginger or peppers.I gave this five stars because it is exactly what you expect from a Dove dark chocolate. It's a bit on the sweet side and does have milk fats in it- a lot of the dark chocolate I buy doesn't. So that was a bit of a surprise. The mouth feel comes from the addition of soy lecithin. Lecithin adds a lot of silkiness in small amounts so it's an additive in a lot of chocolate. It is dark and it's a hard, crunchy bar that doesn't break easily on the pips. If you're trying to section it that way, you might need a knife, otherwise it breaks into irregular pieces.It's a really decent bar to use for hot cocoa, and I think it would be good in other dessert cooking. If you use chocolate in savory foods to add a layer of depth, this one is probably too sweet.

I may take a flak when I will say that I usually do not like American chocolates because it does not taste “real” like most European chocolates. You can google the general dislike for American chocolates and you will find many explanations due to the poorer quality of the butter used (rancid butter used by Hershey alters the taste very negatively).I still was curious to review the Dove Dark chocolate bars so here is my review.Here is what I like about it:- Fair taste- Fair priceHere is what I like much less about it:- Extremely sweet. Actually sugar is the main ingredient, not cocoa.- Artificial flavors (and natural flavors)- Processed with Alkali- No nutrition info on the page.In conclusion:I cannot fathom why so much sugars must be added to the chocolate to make it palatable. I know that cocoa is on the bitter side but there is way too much sugar here. I will admit that I get quickly over it while eating it but it was unnecessary and definitely unhealthy.2 stars.

I honestly thought I was testing a single bar, so when the box of chocolate bars arrived I knew I had to give some away. They were used for Valentine's Day gifts for postmistresses and Y instructors who all loved them. Of course I kept a few and tried very carefully to only eat a few squares a day--hard to do because they are really, really tasty! I'm so glad I received the "plain" Dark Chocolate flavor and not raspberry or salted caramel because to me, that just detracts from the flavor of the chocolate itself.I don't know what amazon was selling these for so cannot comment on the value for the money. Hopefully they will bring them back--I would definitely buy them.

This is really good smooth dark chocolate. It has a lot of flavor. One serving size is a third of the bar. The bars are pretty large so that's a nice portion of chocolate. Each portion has 170 calories with 19 grams of carbs and 10 grams of fat. It does have a lot of sugar in it - 14grams per serving but that is common in a lot of chocolate. Mine came in perfect condition - carefully packaged.It does say 'partially produced with genetic engineering' on the package so not sure what was involved in that. But it also states that the cocoa comes from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms so that sounds good. The chocolate is pretty satisfying with it's rich, flavorful taste. Overall nice, smooth chocolate.

This review is for the 12 pack dark chocolate bars. I received the bars well packaged with the box and bars intact with no problems. I opened one of the bars and it was fresh and with no broken pieces.I love the individual Dove chocolates, so I was looking forward to trying these bars and I was not disappointed as they are the perfect bite of creamy dark chocolate. These have the same great flavor, texture and quality you’d expect from Dove.The bars are shaped into small sections so you can break off pieces/bites to enjoy. This is a little sweeter than traditional dark chocolate, which I actually like. If you love the individual dove chocolates you will love these bars.
