Cabinet maker tool
Good quality and the ruler is very helpful in working with wood.

Perfect.
Just as good as the old one I had for 35 years that finally but the dust. Only concerns are how the measure #’s and lines will hold up. Will update in 6 months. I use this tool for very specific tasks. Mostly use a standard tape measure but use this a few times a week.

Sturdy joints and durable extender, good fit and finish.
Received brand new, and will be put to use next week. This has very tight joints and firmly clicks open and closed. The extender has a slight curve to it, which creates a minimal amount of friction, which helps keep it in place. The extender does not freely or inadvertently move, it takes a minimal amount of effort to extend/retract.The extender is NOT plastic, it is brass with a black coating on the back/inside. I scraped off a bit of the black coating material to expose the brass beneath. I hate to speculate, but I suspect the black coating might help to keep the tight fit of the extender. The rule has 1/16" increments (extender also).I fully opened the rule and extender, and compared it to a Stanley tape measure - the rule appears to be exactly accurate to the tape measure.

Apex: raise the price and raise the bar on GD&T / fit and finish
Fit and finish were a bit sloppy. It could stand some extra bench work, even if that means a couple of extra dollars on the price tag. A few of the hinges only open one direction and required some attention with a needle oiler to be functional. I suggest filing a carpenter's pencil over top of the joints to produce some graphite shavings and working them into the hinges; this should provide some long-lasting lubrication for these joints. Still, having to work on a new tool to make it acceptable for pro use is a little sad, especially from (what used to be) Lufkin, a company with such a rich legacy. This thing really needs a sleeve of some sort to protect it in the toolbox. I could see myself breaking it without trying very hard. Still, all that aside, it was still a good buy for the money.

Seems great! I am not a professional.
I am not a professional anything but the last one I had was from 30 years ago and was suprised I could still find this till I found out its used fairly commonly still. Guess somethings cant be replaced by 'those pesky newfangled contraptions.' :DVery sturdy design. Nice wood, Keeps its form fairly well when held flat and extended. Slider goes in and out with friction so it stays out. I only replaced my old one because my old one had sentamental value and I wanted to have one to actually use.

Lufkin: The brand I don't buy again!
The slide does not slide. Poor construction. What a waste of my time. I'll find a different company, and return this thing.

Handier than I first thought
Sometimes I just like to go old-school and measure like my Dad did, but then I found real reasons where a folding ruler is more accurate in certain situations. This rule is no longer a novelty for me, but an important asset in my shop. Great for measuring inside measurements, squaring drawers and boxes. Most often I use this standing on edge not laying flat. Try it and you'll "rediscover" a real gem. This one feels well made with tight joints and accurate markings

... a tape measure guy but this piece is extremely useful if working on stuff under six feet long
I used to be a tape measure guy but this piece is extremely useful if working on stuff under six feet long. And you can't beat the inside measurement accuracy either.
