Black water aquarium approved
Let's start off with price per item. You definitely get what you pay for. It was a very good sized amount compared to other Alder cones purchases. Now, if you're wanting a black water tank this is for you! Has very good tannins and will darken your water fast. If you don't want dark water, soak or boil these first! (you've been warned, don't complain because you didn't read the reviews) They are perfect for all 3 of my shrimp tanks. The shrimps love them and for the amount, will last quite a while.

Great, tannins and small. Good price
These are exactly what I wanted. I’m not sure about the intelligence of some writing reviews stating they are big or release to much tannins lol. They are suppose to release tannins it literally says so, the amount will of course vary from batch to batch is not a factory that makes these it’s nature and also the size is about an inch and a half to 2.5 inches long and a width of about an inch and some are connected still which is nice because it adds a touch of realism. How they would fall into a body of water right? Anyways they are a great size and mine released a decent amount of tannins but nothing crazy at all. I put 3 in a 29 gallon thought not 1 or 2 per gallon as suggested because who just goes all in and just hopes lol (prob the people complaining their water is black now ahaha). And the price is banging, good price and through description!

Buyer beware
Even after rinsing them, they leech huge amounts of tannins into the water. Even with only two cones in a 15 gallon tank. By morning the tank was so dark the light would not penetrate to the bottom and I couldn't see any of my shrimp. My aquarium look like I poured straight iced tea in the tank.I pulled the alder cones out, place them in a bucket and have been letting them soak for a couple days, changing the water every 6 hours and it is still leaching tons of tannins. I have 20 aquariums and have been doing water changes for 2 days trying to get most of the tannins out. Buyer beware please pre-soak these before placing them in your aquarium.

Small but packs a punch! (For nano tanks up to 20 gallons)
I am posting this to dispell the bad reviews about this being "small". Each cone is about 3/4" for the largest and 3/8" for the smallest. Small or big is relative depending on your tank size. However, that's all you need because 15-20 of these cones will tan a 20 gallons overnight. I boil them just to help them sink but I do not want to loose too much of the medicinal properties of the product so I only boil them for 30 minutes. Most people open them up and they freaked because it looks dry and some brittleness. But as with nature this product requires time to truly performs. Once you deploy them to the aquarium, Plecos, and catfishs will graze on them and claim the territory surrounding them. All the livestock are more active no fatalities. Overall, great tanning and do not add too much because you will find yourself doing a massive water chage the next day to clear up the tannin.

Potent little things
I hadn't used these before so I used too many and turned the water very brown in my 20 gallon tetra tank. The fish didn't seem to mind but I had to fine tune it a bit to get the color and the ph right. These cones are very effective. After a week my tetras started doing their social dances more often so I guess they like it. Since you only need a couple for 20 gallons I'd say this bag is a very good value.

Beautiful addition to blackwater tank
I ordered a package of 100 and received 120 cones. I boiled a handful for about 5 mins and then let the water cool, and added it all to my tank. It stained the water beautifully and my betta seems to love it. I now have about 30 cones in my 10 gallon, and it's dark and beautiful. Definitely seems worth the money and I'm sure this package will last me for a few months.

Very effective
I tried them out to see their potential for tannins and what is in the picture is after a few weeks and many water changes, I went under the recommended amount, it’s very strong and the tank was very dark even with my powerful lights on, I couldn’t see past the middle. You can use this also to push back algae issues if you can’t be bothered to turn off the lights or dim them 😂 don’t forget tannins are a powerful colorant too, for many materials, but in a mature aquarium most surfaces are protected by biofilm anyways. I think some of my wish prefered having visibility contrary to online beliefs, and I doubt it ll do much to your PH if your KH is high enough since the well-being of all your inverts and micro fauna highly depends on it being present 😂 Also like any other wood stuff it can generate endless food for shrimp and even otocinclus, there is an initial bloom but once you are past it, it stabilizes and the cone like wood, won’t have that fuzzy white stuff be overly visible. Have fun, for me that bag is good to last me for the next 137 years.

A little goes a long way
These things are like little tannin bombs, great for creating a blackwater tank was even able to make my own blackwater extract only issue i noticed was the bag seemed to have already been opened? but all the contents seemed to be inside

Lots of tannins!
After boiling for over a hour , continuously changing water , I put it in 4 different tanks and got 4 different results , my 1 10 gallon with 5 small cones turned the water a dark brown , my 20 gallon I put 4 and killed 2 of my fish, my other 2 10 gallon tanks didn’t effect it much with 4 in each , my shrimp don’t seem to pay any attention to it either , next time I would boil it again then just soak it in water for atleast a couple days , other then that they look good! Good sizes , will order again just put them in my tank differently next time

Great if you want tinted water
I used those in 5 different tanks. If the tank had carbon in the filter, there's no issue. If not, then it tints water and personally I prefer clear water. I recommend pouring boiling water on them and let them soak for at least 48h changing the water about 2 times per 24 if you don't want them tinting water.

Amazing
Absolutely incredible, much larger than alder cones I've gotten from local fish stores. They Leech an insane amount of tannins so definitely be aware of that
