Highly recommended
This book is just fabulous. I found it to be packed full of easy to read, easy to understand tips for those working with traumatised clients in their workplace. The book is well set out and is full of practical strategies to apply whilst working with clients. It also gives a thorough overview about trauma andhow it effects the body and how vicarious trauma occurs. Clear case studies help one to fully understand how the strategies work.I found I was on the brink of burnout and the useful easy toapply ideas in this book made a huge difference in managing the symptoms of vicarious trauma. It gave me skills I will continue to use for many years to come.I'd highly recommend this one.

A must read for anyone in the field of helping others
This book makes so much sense, is simple to follow and is not just for the clinical professional. Whether you are an advocate, case manager or just work in an agency that helps others, this book is for you. The information is backed by research and Rothschild makes the information accessible. Highly, highly recommend. This may even help with some relationships in your life that are not work related.

Great Resource
Great for anyone in a helping profession. I needed to learn more about compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma. If you are a counselor, pastor, etc, this is a must read.

My Mistake
I made a hasty decision to buy this book based on the title and a friend's recommendation, because I was looking for "help for the helper." Unfortunately, it turns out to be heavy on the psychophysiology of trauma and attachment--which I'm already familiar with--and light on the help. If you're looking for a readable review of the science, you'll enjoy this book. If you're looking for practical solutions, I suggest you look elsewhere. What there is seems obvious and not particularly new.

Great book!
My friend recommended it and I am glad I bought it. I am studying to become a psychotherapist and the book really helps me understand what I sometimes go through with clients. What I really like about this book is that everything is based on common sense and it is easy to read. I would recommend it to new student counsellors. It has helped me make sense of parallel processes, compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma. Thanks Babette!

Couldn't stop my husband fighting me for it
We both agree this is so true and a brilliant book to help those of us who help others either via our work or socially. Any of us who have suffered burn-out should have had this available at the time.

Very useful information and advice on working with and slowing down the trauma response but also in paying attention to self and applying common sense.
