Read this before you buy
Read before you buyI bought one from the same seller last year and it was literally the best WiFi antenna booster I bought, and I tried many. But it was last years older model, This new one I just bought is exactly the same as the older one except for the guts, and it is horrible. They changed the board, the antenna is half the size and receives at half the distance. The older model could receive at over 2000ft easy and this new style which is exactly the same except for the guts won't even receive the same signal at 900 ft. It is a half empty box with air instead of antenna. Here are the pictures see for yourself. This company destroyed a very nicely built antenna that worked absolutely great at one time and should be ashamed of themselves for making these new ones so cheap. See for yourself before you buy. If they change back to the older style I would have this deleted and give them a good review. I just get tired of good products that change for the worse.

Very Disappointed
I had high hopes for this antenna but that was not to be the case. I installed the software from the included disk to my Windows 10 PC. It looked promising because Windows 10 was one of the install options. The install went smoothly and ended with a note that it had installed correctly but that was the last good news. The first indication of problems was that the software did not startup after the installation completed so I clicked on the shortcut installed on the desktop. Nothing happened. I tried running as administrator, after the dialog to enter the admin password, nothing. I tried restarting the PC, still no go. Plugging in the antenna also make no difference the software would not start. The next disappointment came when I checked to see if the antenna itself worked. The WiFi connect dialog did show an additional WiFi connection option WIFI1 and WIFI2. I selected WIFI2 to connect using the ALFA antenna but the only WIFI hot spot shown was my own. The PCs internal WIFI shows 3 of my neighbors hot spots. What a disappointment.Ok, so I thought I would contact tec support and see if they were any help. They apparently do not want anyone to contact them. Going the their web site I could find only a short list of frequently asked questions, no email, phone numbers, and no chat links could be found.I an very disappointed in this product and will be returning it later today.

Amazing 2.4 mile connection!
We have a "new to us RV" and were going away to a state campground on the coast. It was a desolate area with no wifi. Just before we left I bought this antenna to try it out. We set up camp and I used my Surface Pro 2. I could see two weak signals and could not connect to either. I put the Alfa up on a painters pole (in about a 50 mph wind!) and lashed it to the RV. It is the size of a small Kleenex box and light and was not affected by the wind. The provided pipe clamps worked fine. The provided USB cable looks very sturdy and suitable for outdoor use.The USB has one (not two) connectors so it went into the Surface just fine. I did NOT need to install any drivers or software from Alfa. I turned off the Surface antenna and turned on the Alfa, all through Win10 Control Panel. Bingo. 26 signals! I could scarcely SEE civilization. There were some lights on a hill across the water so I rotated the Alfa in that direction. I found an open connection and it worked! It was weak and the data rate was low, but it was fine for emails. I used Google Maps to find "my" location (Maps thinks you are physically at the source of the IP) and then used Google Maps "measure" feature to determine that I was fully 4 KILOMETERS (2.4 MILES) away! For this price? Amazing.I then turned on the hotspot feature in the Surface Pro (part of Win10) and soon had 2 iPads connected to the Surface Pro sharing the connection. Yes, it was very slow, but a lot better than nothing, and I did not need any extra software, repeaters or anything else. It just plain worked!Of course I am not expecting this sort of performance over land (this connection was over a bay of water) but it sure beats the built in antenna.

I'm really happy
This works really well on my boat. The aim is not so critical that the boat swing is ok holding the signal. I suspect the maximum range is increased with no swing.I could not connect it to an iPad, but I can connect it to a Windows machine and run a program on Windows called Connectify that turns the windows machine into a hot spot for the iPad.It came with a driver disk which installed well on my Windows 10 machine. As an added bonus that I wasn't expecting was that the USB/Power cord between the computer and the unit has a second USB plug on the computer end. This allows you to either power the unit separately without draining the battery in your computer, or plug in to two separate USB ports on your computer to provide more power than a single USB port is willing to give out.In initial testing, I looked at the 0 to 5 bar signal strength readings for various routers in my neighborhood. I compared the signal I got on my computer's built in system vs the Alfa. I observed a 2 to 3 bar increase using the Alpha. You have to remember that the Alpha is a directional antenna and sometimes needs to be pointed in a different direction to get a good signal. On the boat, it turned a one bar signal into a 5 bar signal.I am very pleased with my purchase.

1 to 54 Mbps perfprmance!
One bar maybe, 1 Mbps without this device as close to no reception as it gets! Router is about 800 ft. away under a building roof and trees in between. Now receiving 54 Mbps, 5 bars...........................simply amazing and delighted with this purchase. It does the job exceedingly well. Set up is a breeze. Mounted it on a pole 12 ft. up in the air aimed in the direction of the router. Works so well, got a second one now installed in another location. Considering the very reasonable cost and how it makes internet life possible compared to none at all, I am a very happy customer. We shall see how it holds up this winter when the rains come around.
