My DREAM toilet seat....(read for update)
If you had asked me 12 years ago if I would care about toilet seats I would have laughed till I cried ;) Butt.....pun intended.......haha.....being a mother of 6 children and 1 husband.......I LOVE this toilet seat!!!!1. Hubby is always in a hurry and doesn't care to put seat down on a regular seat because it slams and makes a loud thud if you don't gently set it down, which, we all know how time consuming that is, not a problem with this seat because IT LOWERS ITS SELF! You give it a shove and it finishes the job silently.2. No more potty seats to put onto the seat and then have to take off for little beginning potty learners. There is a cute little seat all built in just for this purpose.3. My short 3 year old boy, who is potty learning can put the seats all up to stand and potty like daddy and put it down without slamming it just for the fun of it!4. No more nasty potty seats to have to dump & clean either! Because there is a cute little seat all built in just for this purpose.I think some other reviews said if you where heavy that you couldn't use this seat, but I am not small - I am 5' 7" and 222 pounds and do not have a small rear and I can use this seat with no trouble at all. Sorry maybe to much information, but this is a review for a toilet seat ;)UPDATE: Everything great about the seat EXCEPT it now almost slams shut like a regular (non-slow close) toilet seat. This is after 9 months of use. I still love the seat but because of this bumping it down from 5 stars to 4.

It's a good seat so far
I just received this seat last week, and so far it is pretty good. My 3 year old twin boys like to use it, so that is definitely a bonus. I don't find that the seat is too big like other commenters have said. Their little bums don't fit snugly in them, there is definitely room, but I think it will grow with them and be able to be used for a few years. I don't think that any toilet seat without the pee-protector for boys is going to deflect pee. You just have to make sure that they are pointing down. I was looking at Bemis Next Step 2-in-1 Elongated Toilet Seat Accommodates Both Adult and Child , and I decided to go with the Progressions seat for two reasons : it is plastic, and it does NOT have the easily removable seat. I didn't want the wood seat to get stained, or catch the smell. I was also afraid that the magnetic seat holders on the Bemis would not hold up. I wanted something sturdy for the boys. I will admit that I am hesitant to sit on the seat with the lid closed. It doesn't feel as strong to me as the wood ones. I do sit on it though, and haven't had any problems.

Not impressed
I was excited to get this (occupational hazard of parenting) because I don't like using the seat adapter for my not-quite-2 year old. I've wanted one since we potty trained our first 4 years ago. I chose this one because the reviews were better, and the quality seemed to be better than the others. In terms of materials, it was decent. I don't know that it would have held up for the several years I expected it to last, though. We may not have tightened it enough, but it seemed to wiggle after installation. The topmost cover is also rather flimsy, and it buckles if you sit on it. Not a big deal, but that's where we hang out while the littles are in the bath. The first time I put my daughter up there, she nearly slipped all the way through because I expected the seat to be adequate to hold her. I had to hold her up there so she didn't fall in. Granted, it wouldn't have been far, but still not what you want when you sit on the toilet. Having to hold her defeats the purpose of having a child seat. We sent it back. Amazon service was great.

Love this otpion over using a removable child seat
I originally bought this over a year ago to use in our small bathroom...I had a 2YO getting ready to potty train and I also do in-home daycare so I frequently potty train other children. Because it was the only bathroom in the house I decided to go w/ this over a removable seat since I would constantly be removing it & it'd just get in the way. I've really liked it. I love the slow close feature, preventing anyone from slamming the seat shut, I love how it saves a lot of time & space, I love how it's easy to clean. I don't like the general look of it, it's not a big deal but just that extra hinge on the top bothers me; and I don't like the adult seat, you do get used to it but it's not nearly as comfortable as a regular toilet seat is...all in all, the pros definitely overcome the cons and when we moved into a new house a couple months ago, which has 4BRs in it, I purchased 3 of these to be used again...so definitely by over again, definitely recommend.

Great concept. No more semi-drowned little bottoms
Great concept. No more semi-drowned little bottoms. I do have to tell my guests before they use my bathroom to lift up both seats though. You cannot tell there are two seat sizes and unless you're a man, you don't just go lifting up the seat. I wish the toddler lid had soft close, and the adult seat's soft-close function is super weak so that if anyone just carelessly flips the seat down, it still slams. Also, the toddler lid is not meant for sitting or standing on. It is very thin and lightweight and dimples in if you stand on the lid. Easy to clean, easy to install and looks great though.

Great for toddlers
This works great as a toddler seat. I like that this seat functions FIRST as a toddler seat, and the ability to use it for adults is more of a secondary function. Many combination seats have the adult seat as the main function, and children have to pull down a child seat from inside the lid, which is often heavy and can pinch little fingers. This one is lightweight, easy for children to lift, and would never pinch or smash little fingers.I was worried that the opening of the child seat was not that much smaller than the adult opening, but the front of the opening is narrower and this gives the child enough security to balance without feeling like they will fall in. The back of the opening is still wide enough that an adult can easily help wipe little bottoms.I also like that it is not painted wood, but rather solid plastic construction that does not chip and is very easy to clean.
