Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The (DVD)After a dozen graves are desecrated in rural Texas, five young people in their 20s (Jessica Biel - Blade: Trinity; Jonathan Tucker - The Deep End; Eric Balfour - "Six Feet Under," "24"; Erica Leerhsen - "The Guardian"; and Mike Vogel - "Grounded for Life") investigate and find themselves stalked by a family of cannibals led by Leatherface, a towering and insane brute dressed in human skins. Remake of the 1974 horror classic.]]> Review: Love Jessica Biel - My favorite Jessica Biel movie. R Lee Ermey is always memorable. About this as a remake it’s a great one. It’s up there with the slim list of great remakes. I’d say this is better than the original. Review: Very bold and intense horror and a great DVD - While I fully appreciate and respect the tastes of others, let me just say I have no idea why the original is held in such high regard. It was truly one of the worst films I have ever seen. Nothing happened in it. There was ZERO suspense or excitement, the dialogue was barely audible and it felt like another half of it was missing. I hated it and I am so puzzled why so many people love that film. Granted, back in 1973 it may have been easier to scare audiences and the low-budget nature of the original may have contributed to the ugly look of the film but I see no reason to credit the original director (Tobe Hooper) with any of the film's so-called qualities. The man's career fell flat on it's face soon after and I think his most famous movie was something of a fluke. It would not have succeeded today. Obviously, as I just said, audiences today are exposed to a larger number of movies and can choose and discriminate more easily. There are some who will say the only people who can enjoy this will be degenerate teenagers who don't know what real horror is. And some who will call the film to glossy. But none of this I find fair criticism. I am, in no way, a fan of Michael Bay or any of his movies. But he had the right idea in keeping the budget very low for this movie ($8 million) and seems to be more skilled in packaging and producing than directing. The film is not 'glossy' or 'clean'. The equipment use to make the film is more sophisticated than that on the original but this is not 'The Rock' or 'Armageddon' and there are no hundred-shots-in-a-second and flashy camera tricks. They all tried their best to pull of a nervous, raw horror film that stands on it's own and I think they have. This was sooooooo much better than the first. The characters actually HAVE character this time. I got on their side, I got involved in the action (yes, there is action this time, and a LOT of it) and the acting was done well. Plus Jessica Biel is VERY hot. So many new dimensions and situations occur is this remake that elevates to something a zillion times what the original was. Don't automatically think that because Michael Bay is the producer that it's going to be some kind of sanitised and fashion-shoot Hollywood production. It is still a very edgy and intense film. It's rare that a Hollywood film manages to horrify and offend these days, so I'm very glad the new TCM went for a hard R-rating. The tone is so filthy and depraved that you will definitely need to shower soon afterwards. THAT'S how close you get to the action. Even the character of Thomas 'Leatherface' Hewitt has a lot more to do this time. He's not quite Jason Voorhees but he's still an incredibly mean bad guy you'd NEVER want to mess with or come within 10 miles of. And in case you're wondering, he's played by the same dude who played Butterfinger, the big, dumb blonde guy from Hudson Hawk. Only this time he's not so cuddly. Not since 8mm almost 5 years ago have I seen a film where the bad guys (there's more than one) are nothing but the blackest of all evil. R. Lee Ermey was terrific (as usual) as the disgusting Sheriff and any fans of him should only expect the most badass of performances. Second to Dawn of the Dead (and tying with House of 1000 Corpses) this is one of the best horror movies I have seen in a long time. The Platinum Series DVD is just awesome. The 1.85:1 anamorphic picture is superb and the Dolby 6.1/DTS ES soundtracks are incredible. You'll really think Leatherface is chainsawing his way into YOUR living room. There are also a massive load of interesting extras including a 75-minute documentary, deleted scenes, a documentary on serial killer Ed Gein (who was 'supposedly the inspiration for the original but Tobe Hooper denied these rumors) and screen test footage. The packaging is awesome with a metal plate stuck on the front cover and 'crime scene' photos in a little envelope tucked into back. It completes a great package of a great DVD of a great movie. Buy it!!!

Think twice before picking up a hitchhiker.
Let me start by saying that when I review a film, I like to do so without compairing to others. To read exactly what I think of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1974 version, feel free to read my review on that film. I'm not going to compair, I'll just tell you what I feel with this film on it's own merit. Lets begin... The package Meter: 5 Stars! The case for the platinum series is the way to go. You get two discs that are nice and secure, they hold well in the case and don't pop out. The discs are also easy to get in and out which saves a lot of headache. You get a beautiful cover that opens up and which looks like the long bar/blade of Leatherfaces chainsaw! Now what could be more cool then that! You also get a envelope which contains some really cool photos from what I can see in pictures. I have yet to break the red tape though on mine and open it because I want to keep it sealed. Knowing me I will buy a second copy of this gem of a film so I can open one. One disc contains the movie and the other contains a lot of extras. I just love the way this package looks, Leatherface holding his chainsaw with a errie read glow behind him. Very well done, I'm very happy with this package. Spook Meter: 4 stars! This film is very well done and very scary. It built things up at a very nice pace, not to rushed and not to slow. There is some really great scenes in this film that will make your heart race and is sure to please any serious horror fan. There are some really cool chase parts with Leatherface running with his chainsaw that made me leap with joy! I don't like to give much away at all in my reviews. I will say this, one part that will really leave a impression on you is the whole scene with the hitchhiker in the van. I will not say more then that, but it's just freaky. The actors and actresses did a fine job but it's the Sheriff and Leatherface is what brings this all together, they really made this film click. The Sheriff is just plain insane and the guy who played Leatherface really did a very fine job at bringing him to life. The way he moves in this film with the chainsaw in hand is very creepy and gives a really nice touch to this film. I felt the kids could have done a bit better, but they did well acting. I thought there could have used a few more screams throughout the film to make the terror come to life a bit more, but overall it still was scary. Gore Meter: 4 Stars There is a lot of gore in this film, but not super extream. The blood and gore I thought was very well done and it looked very real. I advise that you watch this film only if you can deal with some pretty intense scenes though because this does have it. Not as extream as my 5 star rating but still not at all for the faint of heart when it comes to gore. Profanity Meter: 5 Strikes A ton of language throughout this film and as I have said in past reviews, this is always a dissapointment to me. I find that excessive profanity actually takes away from the overall enjoyment. Sexual Meter: 1 Strikes Nothing sexual here. There are a few comments here and there that I thought were in poor taste, but other then that there is nothing sexual/visual that happens in the film. Final Thoughts: This film is scary! I have seen more scary and less scary but overall I loved this film! It will leave a impression on you and you will come away feeling very impressed! I had to give this 4 stars overall for a few things that brought the the overall enjoyment down slightly for me personally as a viewer. If you love horror though, you will be very pleased to add this gem to your collection, I know I was. I hope they continue to make more chainsaw films. Leatherface rocks!!

Well I am an lover of Horror movies I had read and heard about this, I was researching this last night as this remake of the highly controversial 1974 movie directed by Tobe Hopper this movie was banned in seven countries and was also banned in Cinemas, outright due to violence and labelled an original video nasty . Though having not seen it I can’t think this remark would be more violent I would like to say; if you have seen the original this remake is just as scary and does not have a lot of violence in it well a reasonable amount the beginning is violent and the parts inbetween leather face killing Erin Friends The sole survivor , Erin played very well by an Younger Jessica Biel , Kemper her boyfriend and Friends Morgan Andy, and Pepper, They are in their way to Lynyrd Skynyrd concert they had been travelling through Mexico to purchase Marijuana while driving through Texas lowa, the group come across a distraught young women who Spoiller Alert, Tells them she escaped an bad man who we come to know as Leatherface an deranged crazy homicidal maniac who looks like he has an mask on his face which is disfigured goes through the park with an chainsaw. He was picked on has a child and thanks to a crazy Younger women Leather Face’s sister who has kidnapped an baby says he can’t help it did you see his face to an distraught Erin ; we could see a bit well of his face and lips and eyes through that very cold dark leather skin mask he wears anyway it is an very scary movie that will stay with You, the scenes where he is in the park with an chainsaw are too me terrifying his crazy mum and sister as well as possibly aunt and uncle are just as deranged sociopathic cannibals . Definitely worth a watch glad I add it to my Horror DVD Collection .
