The Art of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Incredible artwork....
I have many art books for other movies, from Harry Potter, Fantastic Beasts, Doctor Strange, Rogue One and the newest Star Wars Episodes 7 & 8. Each book is as visually stunning and unique as the next and I love the creative process each one holds and the films they cover mean something to me, so to see the care and artistic dedication they were given is also a beautiful treatment in itself and for me as important as picking the right composer and troupe of actors actresses. However, I was left with mixed feelings on this book. The art and paintings are amazing, but you can feel the disjointed approach and change of pace and script along with director. You get a great look at what could have been and wish those deleted scenes may one day be released, or perhaps a "Final Cut" of the movie with all footage restored in the right places. Either way, the book is fantastic ishowcase how talented Lucasfilm and Lucasarts are.

AMAZING delivery service ... Book is 'essential' for the Fan Shelf
Just wanted to give Amazon.co.uk a HUGE shout-out for their amazingly fast delivery of this book which Amazon.de in Germany said was 'unavailable'. Odd. I ordered it on Friday, it was in my hands on Tuesday. The book itself is beautifully done, although I understand it leaves out a lot, esp concerning Palpatine. I just know that the other two "Art of ..." books were fascinating to dig through, and I'm sure this will be no exception.Well done, Amazon.

Spectacular art book, best of the three.
At last, 3 months late but we'll worth it.I can see why this was delayed, as it bears little resemblance to the finished film and is firmly based on Trevorrow's script and treatment. Spectacular art to blow your mind, and to see what COULD have been.Ignore the naysayers. OK there is no Palpatine, but there is SO much more. Highly recommended.

Missed opportunity
Following the same format as Szostak’s “The Art Of The Force Awakens” and “Last Jedi”, this takes “The Rise Of Skywalker” from initial concept art (along with spoiler images from “The Last Jedi”) right through to the end of production. Lucasfilm and Abrams have this kind of thing down perfected now and the book is beautifully designed, the artwork perfectly reproduced. But the tone has shifted, in that the others featured big spreads of imagery while this kind of gets bogged down in detail, so we get a whole run of “here’s a blaster” with various iterations that look almost identical (and the “wizard” is a case in point too) so it starts to feel samey very quickly. Szostak’s workman-like writing hasn’t improved at all, with the “making of” sections coming over dry and flat, along with his seeming assumption the reader has very limited retention skills (JJ Abrams is often “director JJ…” to make sure we don’t forget). His hero worship of Rick Carter (who doesn’t do much “reaching out” this time round but is still full of odd philosophical ramblings) is also unfortunately fully intact. As with all the films in this trilogy, everyone mentions going back to Ralph McQuarrie and mining his work from the 70s yet no-one seems to find the irony in there being an army of designers on his film against the three or four designers on the first trilogy, or that the work from then is superior to now. There’s also a huge missed opportunity with very little on the new fleet and absolutely nothing on Palpatine. I love Star Wars, I enjoyed this film and I love this kind of art book (and Doug Chiang’s foreword is wonderful) but, I have to say, this did try my patience.

Great book for a very bad movie
This is probably the worst Star Wars movie. The book was on sale so it worth 5 stars. It is gorgeous, the art concepts are stunning and darker than the actual movie. In fact, this book is better than the movie itself.

Espectaculares ilustraciones de concept
Fantásticas ilustraciones de concepto, con mucho dibujo y poca letra, que es cumo debe ser en mi opinión un libro de arte de película.
